Colin McRae :DiRT 2 Coming September 2009
[03-06-2009 | DH | Comments (1) ]
DiRT 2 will feature a roster of contemporary off-road events, taking players to the most diverse and challenging real-world environments. Colin McRae: DiRT 2 will benefit from tuned-up car-handling physics system and new damage engine effects. It will also showcase a spectacular new level of visual fidelity, with cars and tracks twice as detailed as those seen in Race Driver: GRID. In addition to the World Tour, Colin McRae: DiRT 2 will come complete with full online functionality that will be core to the overall experience, with head-to-head competitive online play and new social features to engage the racing community. Prepare for mud, gravel, dust and dirt too in Colin McRae: DiRT 2, coming 2009.

Colin McRae: Dirt Review at Boomtown

Colin McRae, a Scotsman renowned as much for rolling his R's as his cars, has lent his name to the latest entry in a rally series that has traditionally sat somewhere between simulation and full blown arcade racer. Until now, the franchise has arguably improved incrementally with each successive release, so is there really anything significantly different to warrant splashing the cash this time around?

Colin McRae Rally Review at Out of Eight

n my opinion, the best drivers in the world compete in the World Rally Championship. These people are nuts, going way too fast on roads that are way too small and dusty. The only people who are possibly more nuts are the fans that stand right next to the out-of-control cars. Unfortunately, rally racing has taken a back seat to NASCAR on TV in the U.S., so most of my rally fix needs to be satisfied by computer gaming. There have been a number of rally games on the PC, mostly notably Richard Burns Rally (my personal favorite and consensus realism winner) and the Colin McRae series, the latest of which (without the Colin, at least in the U.S.) is titled DiRT.

Colin McRae: Dirt Official Patch v. 1.2
[24-07-2007 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
Codemasters offers a new patch for Colin McRae: DIRT, updating the rally racing sequel sometimes referred to as simply DIRT (or DiRT) to version 1.2. The new version adds additional leader boards, and also addresses a bug that could result in corrupted saved games. There is also a note that: "Saved games are only usable by the PC and user that created them."

Two years of development were involved in Dirt, and the results and radical changes can be seen. With the latest product of the Colin McRae rally racing series, Codemaster decided to introduce a wide variety of rally sports. Besides the classical rally, you can play CORR races, rallyraid races, hillclimb races, rallycross, and crossover races.

Colin McRae: Dirt Review at Game Informer

olin McRae is already less than a household name in most homes in America, so the fact that Codemasters dropped the drivers name from this franchise signals a new direction for the series formerly known as a hardcore rally racing sim. Dirt hasnt sacrificed any of the nail-biting, hair-raising racing action nor the requirement that you have the driving chops to pull some of it off but the games lack of identity leaves me wondering why they made the change in the first place.

Really, how far does a series have to drift away from its original premise before it all gets a bit ridiculous? Bar the appearance of the Scotsmans name in the after-race placings and the fact that its an off-road racing game, finding elements that link DiRT to previous titles in the Colin McRae series is something of a challenge. Where have Colin and Nicky Grist disappeared to? Why has everything gone transatlantic? Why is the very first thing you hear when you start the game the voice of US pro-racer and X-games gold medallist Travis Pastrana? Do you want to play a rally game in which your co-driver addresses you as dude?

Colin McRae: Dirt Released
[20-06-2007 | JZ | Comments (10) ]
Codemasters, Inc. today announced that DiRT, the highly anticipated off-road racing game, is shipping to retail outlets nationwide for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and the PC, with the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system edition to follow shortly. DiRT is rated "E" (Everyone) by the ESRB. Developed by Codemasters Studios using its new propriety engine, Neon, DiRT takes traditional rally and turns it into an exhilarating thrill ride through a massive range of off-road racing experiences on gravel, mud and dirt, right across the globe.

Expanding on the brilliant point-to-point rally racing, the game includes an extensive range of off road and circuit events, delivering a thrilling, often challenging and ultimately hugely rewarding experience.

Players race in challenging, heavyweight 850bhp cars through high speed blind corners and along perilous cliff edges in the Hill Climb events, including the world famous Pikes Peak International through the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.

There are also multiple car races with Dakar-style trucks and super-powered 4x4s on grueling desert terrain in Rally Raid competitions. In Rally Cross, players switch between dirt and road racing. The competition is always breathing down your neck and always ruthless.

Then there are Crossover circuits and events from the CORR (Championship Off -Road Racing) series in the U.S. The CORR series is all about head-to-head full on dirt circuit racing. The combination of powerful off-road buggies and exciting dirt tracks incorporating tabletop jumps, drop-offs and moguls is an intoxicating mix.

DiRT also offers a dedicated rally championship section and the opportunity to race against others and the clock with a 100-person online multiplayer mode. In any mode, on any surface, the car handling is sublime, the physics system is thrillingly accurate and the damage engine is as devastating as ever.

Get up to speed with the Xbox 360 playable demo now available from Xbox LIVE Marketplace and the PC demo, along with videos and product information, available from https://www.codemasters.com/dirt

Everything you know is wrong. Well, probably not everything, even if you went to a good school. Anyway, Colin McRae has changed: its been totally reinvented, but in a good way. In a really good way.

So out goes the porridge-pale Scot glued in a Subaru and racing where your only rival is the ticking of the clock, and in comes a horde of intelligent drivers, enough cars to jam I-5 and an annoying American commentator so pumped that hed probably burst into a shower of Moms apple pie if you jammed a needle up his Old Glory. And after about five minutes you will want to, believe us.
