I used to race a class II off road sand rail. In my opinion, both trucks and sandrails are amazingly realistic. Trick is to lower screen rez so that framerate stays high enough and steering lag disappears.
If you use anything over 800x600 and medium shadows without cutting edge graphics cards you are shooting yourself in the foot.
Having said that, please go back and try again. You may be amazed at what you are missing.
Also, please realize default pc setups need some serious work.

LOL is all I can say...
No- the PC isn't the problem, the low framerate isn't the problem, the cartoon physics are the problem. Go try RBR if you want anything close to realistic in a sim.

ahh, i point was strictly about cmr or codemasters products reviews in general.
but hey even as arcade, dirt fails it, i mean, the arcade should not be underestimated so easily, is not like "oh, ok we make an arcade type so we can throw all sorts of shits inside, 'cause its arcade, you know".
imho these days should be easier to go for sim, it should be easier to get it working, you have all the docs and the curent systems obviously can handle a pretty decent amount of simulation. all you really need is to find the right programmer and i bet there are plenty o people up for the job if you pay them the right price. |

I enjoyed RBR, but it was far from realistic in my opinion. I am curious, anyone else with off road seat time care to comment on DIRT for the pc? |

In my humble opinion with some experience, after playing the demo, no sir! It is really some sort of cartoon phisics, when you drive a car on gravel at a reasonable speed and you just turn the wheel very fast to one side the front of the car will react different, depending on your action on gas pedal, it shall continue strait if acelerating, or give a hell of a turn if the gas pedal is lifted, no easy turn as it happens on CMRD, so among other wierd reactions, this one shows, to me that Flatout2 have way much better phisics than CMRD, and is funnyer too even for my son!
Ill give a better try if i borow from someone CMRD, and try to optimise it for hardest dificulty, but no way ill buy it, i did this mistake on CMR05, wich i installed and uninstalled the same day, and than offered it to a friend |

P.S. Last decent CMR was CMR2. All the rest were a waste of time. |

So in your opinion we should go try CMR DIRT again because it is realistic, but in your opinion RBR is not realistic ?
Is your head screwed on straight? Maybe you are posting from the 11 th dimension?

Well, I don't believe it, but reducing graphic details actually made a huge difference in the steering lag. I tried the game at 800x600 with all options on low or off, and wala, steering control was good, not great, but good. At least now I can control the cars. I now have medium settings and a lower resolution and my frame rate is in the 40's now and it's a big difference from before with controlling the cars.
And yes I agree the physics are still not realistic, but at least this game is enjoyable now. |

so do you have fun with 800x600 and low settings in 2007?
you say "enjoyable", is that meant to be "barely playable" or i'm missing something? |
