n my opinion, the best drivers in the world compete in the World Rally Championship. These people are nuts, going way too fast on roads that are way too small and dusty. The only people who are possibly more nuts are the fans that stand right next to the out-of-control cars. Unfortunately, rally racing has taken a back seat to NASCAR on TV in the U.S., so most of my rally fix needs to be satisfied by computer gaming. There have been a number of rally games on the PC, mostly notably Richard Burns Rally (my personal favorite and consensus realism winner) and the Colin McRae series, the latest of which (without the Colin, at least in the U.S.) is titled DiRT.

Finally, an honest review that covers what most people I know think about it. It is a fun game, but only when viewed as a single-player arcade game.
The hardware demands were too high on this one, like Halo was as a quick console port. Shame about the consoley menu, though I'd overlook that if the game was really all they made it out to be. The lack of decent multiplayer is criminal. Perhaps next time they'll get it right... though we've been saying that since CMR3. |

One of the best and most honest race "sim" review I have read in my life. (of course DiRT is not a sim as he states)
Finally someone tells it like it really is. He must have been reading my mind (or any race SIM fan's mind). Giving credit where credit is due, and letting everyone know that Codemasters have their head up their *** in a lot of ways, which is very unfortunate for us guys who want a complete rally sim.
It is funny that Racer_S gave RBR better multiplayer than these boneheads can give us with a multi mullion dollar budget. Calling DiRT a sim is where codies should be held accountable the most though- that is just a big fat lie. Maybe next time.

Problem is most of the sites are really reviewing the Xbox 360 game and then cutting and pasting the review for the PC. As a console game, it's great. As a PC simualtion, it stinks. I wouldn't have had a problem with the game IF it said it was an arcade racer. But, when the press release boasts of its realism, well, sir, that is not the case. |

Agree, an honest review. Well for those of you wanting some realistic dirt flavor, checkout ORR 2.0 released yesterday for Rfactor. Arena Truck racing with some good tracks (Crandon just released yesterday too). RBR has been the only thing that I have enjoyed as far as dirt racing goes, but now ORR has brought some fun into it again with great multiplayer races. If you haven't checked it out here it is:
https://www.rfactorcentral.com
Then click on cars, and mod is ORR 2.0 by Madcowie. The physics feel very believable, and they are a HANDFULL to race! I doubt you have driven anything in the last year as challenging. These things take some big jumps, so not only do you have to control the sliding on the 700hp monsters, you have to make sure you have them lined up straight before the jumps or you'll end up shredding bodyparts when you don't execute a jump properly (you'll see what I mean). After about 15-20 laps expect to start getting the hang of them. I adapt to new vehicles pretty quick, but it took me a bit longer with these because I've never had these big jumps to deal with (realistically big). This mod is modelled after the CORR truck series, and they have done an excellent job in my honest opinion. I'd say it holds right up there to RBR as far as realism in the dirt. However, they are much different so make your own judgement, but give them 20-25 laps before giving up.
Also: As a tidbit: Put the transfer case on 40/60 for F:R power. You want the rearend to have a little more power than the front. Also, turn brakes to 100% because on dirt sometimes you do want them to lock to help you pivot the truck for the turn. I also had to turn my steering lock way up (default on 20) to 32-34 to get the reaction out of the wheel I wanted. Also make sure to select in vehicle upgrades (Strong FFB level so you can really feel what the truck is doing. Hope to see u online!!
