World of Outlaws Review at IGN [31-03-2003 | JZ | Comments (2) ]
My expectations for this title were a not that high because I was not blown away with the PS2 version. Although it is popular among oval fans, I didn't feel that there was enough variety in the game. The sport is more of a cult favorite rather than a national phenomenon the way NASCAR Racing is. Further, it's all on bland dirt tracks. Really? How good can this be made to look?

World of Outlaws Review at Gamezilla [28-03-2003 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
The graphics in the game are exceptional. The car models and track environments are highly colorful and contain clean and detailed textures. Excellent lighting and shadow effects further enhance the visuals. Nighttime racing is especially impressivethe tracks are way cool under the lights. In addition, the frame rate is fast and fluid, even on my year-and-a-half old notebook. The damage model is somewhat limited, but it provides a nice touch nonetheless. Unfortunately, engine sounds and collision effects are uninspiring.

WoOSC can't be considered your standard race car simulation as it's not quite involved enough. However, you can't really call it an arcade racer either because it's more involved than that. Even though it may seem like WoOSC has an identity crisis what this really means is that this game can appeal to a broad market, from novices all the way up to rat finks and racing sim enthusiasts alike.

World of Outlaws Review at Gamespot [08-03-2003 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
Essentially, World of Outlaws cars are wedge-shaped roll cages on wheels. Their "roofs" are actually enormous aerodynamic wings that can be moved forward and backward prior to or while driving to increase or decrease downforce. Right side rear tires are twice as big as those on the left, and the engine is a torque-filled monster.

World of Outlaws Review at Game Nation [06-03-2003 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
You can choose to play a single-track competition or a full championship set of 24 races, or get behind the wheel for a long career mode where you have to balance your prize money against travel expenses, upgrades, and repairs. Several of the drivers and their cars are locked off at the beginning and it takes the career mode to make them available for the other modes.

World of Outlaws Review at WorthPlaying [05-03-2003 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
Generally, when starting out at a new location, you get a practice run to get a feel for the track. Then theres the qualifying race to make sure youre good enough to race with the big boys, as well as figure out your starting position. Then comes the race with all the other guys. Its kind of exciting to go from an empty course, where youre alone, to a race with all the other guys.

World of Outlaws Review at OTERacing [03-03-2003 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
What happens when rubber and metal meets dirt along with the willpower, courage and strength to keep it there for forty laps? Sprint car racing would be it, but most of us would realistically have very minimal chances of owning a sprint car, so the folks at Infogrames put together World of Outlaws Sprint Cars to bring that realism to your computer. The game takes a different shape than the older versions of the Dirt Track Racing series, with new models, better looking tracks, and graphics. However, with more features comes bigger requirements, and this game is going to take a chunk out of your hard drive, at about 1.6 GB. Is it worth the space and the somewhat monster you're going to need to run it? Read on, and find out for yourself...

Another element that is always a standout performer in Ratbag's racing games is the fantastic career mode, and Sprint Cars doesn't disappoint. Earn money, buy and repair cars, sign on with different sponsors, and progress up the ladder to better racing circuits. Once again, there's nothing here we haven't seen before, but those who are new to Ratbag's games will marvel at how much game you get for the mere $20 it costs you.

World of Outlaws Review at TechTV [01-03-2003 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
The visuals are gorgeous but sometimes incomplete. The cars are beautifully modeled, the lighting effects are impressive, and the crowds are composed of photorealistic images. Small touches, such as mud kicked up by the car in front of you splattering on your visor, add to the realism and enhance gameplay. You can clear your view if there's too much mud on your visor, but you can clear your view only so many times.

World of Outlaws Review at Team Insane [22-02-2003 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
At the start of my first race, at Knoxville, I saw that they had built in a countdown to the rolling start, a get ready set.. go. It seemed like the rolling start takes longer, which will fixes some of the warping in Multiplayer. There were newer style gauges added in, A digital RPM Tach, a Water Temperature, & an Oil Pressure Gauge. Along with an easy reading timer/lap counter. Especially the Tachometer in the Cocpit, very real.

World of Outlaws Impressions at GameSpot [14-02-2003 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
The game focuses on sprint car racing, which is easily recognizable by the giant wing on top of the cars. When you're racing in excess of 170mph on slippery dirt tracks, the large wing and oversized right rear tire help the sprint car keep its traction and prevent it from flipping over.

(Nasdaq: IFGM - News) announced World of Outlaws Sprint Cars - the greatest show on dirt - will be available in all major retail outlets for Windows PC. The product's mind-blowing graphics are a direct-result of developer Ratbag's award-winning Difference Engine(TM).
Prepare to feel the power of World of Outlaws with 12 real-world tracks, 24 official World of Outlaws (WOO) drivers, Single race, Championship and Career modes and spectacular collisions, damage modeling and real world physics of WOO vehicles. Tear off shields in front of your visor as they get covered in mud and hurtle around the oval track at speeds in excess of 170 mph as you white-knuckle your way to the Sprint Car Hall of Fame.
"World of Outlaws Sprint Cars allows fans and gamers alike to truly enjoy an authentic racing experience as the product captures the gritty, noisy, muddy, nerve-shooting World of Outlaws circuit," said Nancy MacIntyre, Vice President of Marketing for Infogrames' Beverly studio. "The realistic physics and jaw-dropping graphics of World of Outlaws Sprint Cars are sure to challenge even the most accomplished PC racing fans."
World of Outlaws is the second most-popular motorsport in the United States next to NASCAR. The series began with sprint car drivers traveling all over the country in search of the highest paying races they could find. There were no rules governing where, when or how they raced, and the drivers were hence dubbed "Outlaws." Sprint cars are easily identified by the big "wings" on top of each car. The "wings" keep the powerful cars planted to the racetrack and prevent them from flipping. Combining speeds in excess of 170-mph with dirt surfaces, sprint car racing is known for its spectacular collisions and crashes.
Developed by Ratbag, World of Outlaws Sprint Cars is currently available for Windows PC at a suggested retail price of $29.99.
