WoOSC can't be considered your standard race car simulation as it's not quite involved enough. However, you can't really call it an arcade racer either because it's more involved than that. Even though it may seem like WoOSC has an identity crisis what this really means is that this game can appeal to a broad market, from novices all the way up to rat finks and racing sim enthusiasts alike.
