Nascar Thunder 2003 Review [03-03-2003 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
Over the last two decades, the popularity of Nascar has been increasing at an incredible rate. This is apparent in the amount of attention it receives in the national media each week The sports division of Electronic Arts (EA) has released several Nascar products in the past with its clear aim at the console market, but its last attempt in the PC realm, Nascar Revolution, fell flat in sales and popularity. Its lack of realism did not provide what hardcore PC racing enthusiasts wanted. The arcade game-play did not make up for the beautiful graphics, and was destined for the bargain bins...

Nascar Thunder 2003 Review at Gamers [11-12-2002 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
EA is shooting for a serious simulation with Thunder, and it has mostly succeeded. This game is a big improvement over the painfully bad NASCAR Revolution. The physics model feels pretty convincing, from the handling of the vehicles to the way the car will take to the skies when the conditions are just right during a high-speed collision. Like most respectable sims, Thunder has plenty of driving aids available, but you really don't experience the full enjoyment the game can provide until you handle all the tasks yourself. Players can tweak the A.I. and the aggressiveness of the drivers, and, with a little experimentation, everyone can set the game up to match their abilities and deliver a lot of great racing action...

Nascar Thunder 2003 Review at PC GameWorld [15-11-2002 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
A sub-par lite simulation racing game that tries to be much more, but ends up falling smack on its ass at every attempt. Papyrus has long been the dominant name in the PC racing simulation market. Several companies over the last few years have tested the waters in this area, but with only moderate success. This year, EA Sports enters the fray with its previously console only Nascar Thunder series. Is this latest entry enough to de-throne the current king of racing simulations? Throwing back a few Buds with a large wad of Skoal shoved in your lip while watching the Southern-twang filled world of Nascar is a thrill unlike anything else. At least, thats what plenty of die-hard racing fans will say. Personally, I cant stand watching those excruciatingly boring races. However, I certainly do enjoy playing the games. The speed, the competition, the glory, and of course, the speed.

Nascar Thunder 2003 Review at IGN PC [13-11-2002 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
You might be surprised that I would call this the 'first effort' but in many ways it is. This year's effort is really the first part of EA's move from the arcade-tilting versions of previous years to the simulation-style represented previously by NASCAR Heat (Hasbro/MGI) and NASCAR Racing 2002 (Sierra/Papyrus). It's no coincidence that Ed Martin's resume would list both the latter companies, as he has hopped from one NASCAR game maker to another...
