Come summer 2006, GTR 2 will set new standards all over again! GTR Review at Games First [24-10-2005 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
Wow, this one came out of left field. GTR: FIA Racing is a simulator built off real telemetry data for FIA GT Racing, and with tracks taken directly from satellite imagery. Let's put it this way, GTR claims to be the most realistic driving simulation out there (have we heard this one before?), but in all honesty, I'm not one to deny that. GTR is an excellent racing simulator. It doesn't do hundreds of choices a la Gran Turismo, car detailing or part buying like in Forza and Need for Speed Underground but you cantune to your heart's content.

GTR Review at Gamezone [23-07-2005 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
The first time I loaded the game up I noticed something that is very different from many of the other games around. Unlike many other racing games on the market, this game allows players to get down and dirty fast, even in the arcade mode. What I mean by this is players will not have to go though a lot of tedious hoops to get the fastest cars; they are available right from the start for the players enjoyment.

GTR Review at GameSpy [23-07-2005 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
Like many developers laboring outside the control of large hungry publishers, SimBin enjoys the luxury of not really caring how much "game" it puts in its sim. There are very few concessions to the types of people who would find themselves hooked by Forza, much less the types of people who buy EA's brash Need for Speed games. From the get-go, you have all the cars, all the tracks, and all the classes dumped in your lap. There's no career progression and no sense of owning the cars. If you're looking for a reason to race beyond the simple desire to come in first place, you're in the wrong sim.

GTR Review at Gamespot [02-07-2005 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
And don't think GTR is intended only for those who like to play alone. The game's multiplayer mode permits up to 56 drivers to compete via LAN or Internet--theoretically anyway. In practice, we found stuttering and other frame rate problems when a dozen or more cars were on the track simultaneously, particularly when grouped together.

GTR Review at Game Chronicles [29-06-2005 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
Simbin attempted to make the game accessible to all race fans when they made GTR, including three separate race modes, Arcade, Semi-Pro, and Simulation. Within Arcade, there are also 4 separate difficulty settings that increase the level of damage, driving assistance, and AI toughness. Arcade mode does away with all those annoying things like pre-race practice sessions, qualifications, etc. Just pick your car, pick your track, and race against a smaller field of opponents in a short race to the finish.
