Hello all!
This is my final hope, asking for help here in the forums... I've got a weird problem with RBR on my rather new computer.
I'm using RBR's *OWN* (built in) multiplayer. When driving in the single stage mode everything is okay, but always when using the single rally mode, RBR makes a CTD. Normally this happens when RBR is loading some menu (going to the service park or stage).
I've got the Z-modeler car plugin installed so atleast it (or the lack of it) doesn't cause the crash. I've re-installed RBR couple of times, so I've started to think that maybe this is a hardware-related problem. Is there any known issues playing RBR with Q6600 Quad and GeForce 8800 GTS 512? I have more RAM than XP can utilize... How about updating my video card drivers..?
I would really love to get rallying whole rallies again with my cousin... What the hell could I do, I'm getting really frustrated...

Sorry to read that you have this issue.
Unfortunatly, RBR is not the most stable and compatible program around the world, and this kind of problems are not so uncommon, as I've recently seen on an italian forum. As we know, only two patches were released before Warthog as gone (they solve some issues but not all of them), so the help of some PC experts is very necessary here IMHO, because RBR give problems both with old and new systems.
In my case, I often have CTD/freezes (usually on stages/replays, sometimes when loading stages/service park as you wrote). Certainly are not related to Z-modeler plugin (as you properly wrote), nor to the lack of RAM (2 GB here, but even 512 MB seems to be enough for RBR with XP); so in the end no idea about them, but I suspect that could be due to my sound card (Audigy 4) or the CPU usage (an old Pentium IV 650 3,4 GHz here, so I don't know how RBR behave on multicore CPUs like yours).
The only thing that seems to work a little (for my system at least) is to start RBR at low priority: it seems to give more stability, even if I have less FPS.
I'm quite sure that it's useless for your quad core CPU, but if you want to experiment a bit (hoping in the meantime that some expert people could help us all), starting RBR at low or high priority and watching what happens, certainly it don't hurt anyone/thing. If you want, you can update the video card drivers too, but I think that this kind of issues are not related to them, but who knows...
With best regards, Tato |

Still not working? Throw your PC out the window and get your self a Xbox. |
Maybe it's not exactly the kind of technical help I'm looking for, but certainly it should work...

Thanks for your reply, but I think that in my case the issues are not related to new cars or other stuff that I've modified along the years, because I've them since the PC was new (3 years ago), with a fresh RBR install + patch 1.02.
In these years I've updated DirectX, drivers, OS, etc. - even changed the video card, because the previous one was broken - but nothing worked. As I've previously wrote, only starting RBR at low priority seems to give some benefit. Maybe I have to purchase a new PC, but present hardware and OS seem to give even more problems than the old ones. |

The CTD has started to appear on single stages too... Such a shame, almost five years of active RBR-driving is nearing the end if I can't get these damn CTDs to stop.

No I don't think it's a hardware-related problem or maybe it is. We have very similar hardware. I have C2 Quad 9400, geforce 9800 GT 1024, and 4GB RAM which is also more than XP can use. I'm using XP Pro SP2 too, Z-modeler cars, Z-modeler plugin, and the car in my startup is a Z-modelled Impreza 2007.
I use some mods, like the co-driver audio mod, AI mod, CamHack(for widescreen), nothing big, so my RBR doesn't look any different than the default RBR except the cars. I even tried running it using the default hardware drivers and the latest. No problems whatsoever.
Are you running a default RBR aside the z-modeler plugin and addon cars? If yes, then I don't think RBR is the problem but might be wrong hardware settings. Overclocking I've known to trigger RBR to CTD.

on CTDs the game generates crash dump files in the RBR's root folder, please upload them somewhere.
(those files are named from your PC's name, the date and the time and they have the extension ".dmp").

I remember RBR could sometimes crash and wouldn't start again.
But it was back to normal after I deleted the dmp files? So I made a habit out of removing the dmp files.
I know it sounds strange but it worked, sometimes. |
you can be sure that was indeed just a creepy coincidence . RBR doesn't care about them and they can't influence the game in anyway.

Thanks for the info guys!
I'll post some of the the .dmp files as soon as I get a CTD again... Damn, I just deleted nearly all of them from the RBR directory. Shouldn't be a problem though to get one...
