So considering that I have installed the original, patched to what is claimed as 2.3, why do I only get a small letterbox view when I use a 1600x1200 setting and what do I really need to get a proper install, as things stand now.

Rather p'ssed off at the confusion of files around claiming to be what you need, and I include the maxinstall program in that. Never used to be this confusing before.......

Well you can always use the 2004 demo as a base for the full game..
Just copy the tracks from the CD over to the demo and you have a full install.

Keep in mind that the Watkin Glen track is already updated in the demo.

I've never tried the Max installer or such so I can't help you with that.

Ohh.. The wide view is correct, its meant to be that way.

Good luck.

Thanks, the letterbox I mentioned is about one tenth the proper screen size and is a bit likie looking through a letterbox while standing some way back from it. The view is correct but only a portion of the whole scene. I have two monitors for my pc setup but am only using one for sims. There are no problems with any other sims like lfs or gt legends.

"One tenth the proper screen size"?? Sounds wrong.

My 22" wide screen monitor resolution is 1680x1050 and 30 cm high x 47 cm wide. The view in GPL is 23 cm high x 47 cm wide (i.e. a 4.5 cm black bar at the top and bottom) which is normal and roughly about what it should be in 1600x1200.

There's a problem where only about 1/4 of the screen shows in the top corner. Is yours anything like that? The fix is in the FAQ that 2re linked to.

Quote:
GPL runs as only a small square in the top corner of the screen
1- The line in the core.ini:
[ Direct3D7 ]
DirectMirrorRendering = 1
Change it to
DirectMirrorRendering = 0
