While the very mere mention of iRacing can stir up a debate, I have noticed that TimWheatley promptly dodges every forum topic when I pose a question that I want an answer to.

Although I have posted in the two threads he has appeared in recently I have noticed he fails to respond to anything I have to say. I admit that I am a bit skeptical about their offering, and the tactics they have employed up to this point, but some of my questions are still valid ones that deserve an answer.

It is not my intention to troll after him, but I would hope that the fact that no one over at iRacing has offered any kind of justification for their behavior, or provided any answers to pertinent questions regarding their product.

All TimWheatley wants to say is that the doors will be open soon for your wheelbarrowfulls of money, and their will be no offline AI.

I still haven't heard an answer if leagues will be supported out of the box.
Is there any client software that must be purchased along with the monthy subscription cost? Can paint be imported? Will a template be available? Do you intend on acquiring NASCAR licensing after EA's contract runs out in 2009?

No one is answering these questions as far as I can tell...yet...they are important to us. I am not the least bit interested in running a Skip Barber mod on the prettiest version of Lime Rock Park in existence. If you want my money, give me a NASCAR sim on NASCAR tracks with league capability/tools, importable paint, and the occasional tweak/upgrade, with a reasonable physics package. AT LEAST GIVE ME WHAT I WANT IF YOU ARE GOING TO TAKE AWAY THE LAST SIM THAT WORKED PROPERLY, AND KEEP US FROM BEING ABLE TO UPDATE IT.

I don't see it yet...I know I am being a prick about it, but I am willing to be fair about it if I can get more answers, and less bullshit.

Can you hear me now?

Hmm?

I've no problem answering a respectful post and hopefully, if you want more replies, I can read and reply to more of them.

No. Your monthly fee gives you access to the sim and the free cars and tracks. Updates to the sim, cars and tracks (including those you might purchase in addition to the free ones) are updated for free and the sim will be constantly evolving.

There is a painting suite built into the service that allows you to customize you car, helmet and race suit. At some point in the future there should be templates and more advanced 'skin' editing available.

Thanks,

Tim.

Tim, thanks for responding. Although I realize that iRacing is not intended to solely be a NASCAR platform, I hope you understand that there is a fervent following, looking to get past the dark days of EA's latest incarnation.

You use the word "eventually" when you describe the creation of a plug-in to make league play possible. Try to understand from my point of view that answer is a little vague. Is there anymore information available other than that?

These are the grey areas that are going to tip the scales when people make a decision. While some may try it just for the sake of trying out the new tech, and race against others online, many are going to sit and wait until league integration is in place. If there is a substantial amount of time between release and league integration, you may end up losing a large group of people unnecessarily.

If I may make a suggestion...get a timeline in place for league integration. If there isn't a timeline in place, some may feel that this is a feature that will be on the back burner for some time to come.

As far as what cars and tracks are free, is there a list available of what they are? How much more are other series going to be? That is what is going to change your $13 per month service to whatever other figure may come up....that could be a big difference.

Can you respond to the NASCAR licensing question?

In light of what has been travelling around the net, I hope you guys can just hunker down, and do your thing. If you are going to win the community over, your product will speak for itself. No need to worry about who is getting what license, and so on.

Hi J Smile

Thanks for your reply.

EA have licensing through 2009. I can't give a firm answer on that one at this time. I can tell you though that we will have a car suitable for running at places like Daytona and Talladega.

Sorry there is no firm time line on a lot of things. There are various reasons for this and unfortunately I cannot be more precise on 'when' related questions... The thing that as a sim racer excites me is that this isn't a one-time release with maybe a few patches and then gets forgotten about by the developer, this is an on-going development paid for by the monthly subscriptions. You'll get actual feature updates throughout your subscription.

Private leagues are planned, like I said, but the software itself should give you some very good racing in the meantime. It automatically assigns servers to racers depending on how clean they race and what their skill level is. You should always be able to get a good race when you want one.

There isn't a public list of what cars and tracks are free, but I'd expect you'll see it released fairly soon. I really don't see a lot of people having to spend more than their monthly fee and free 'iRacing dollars' to get everything they need as they progress, that's what they're there for.

Though I can't tell you what is free and what isn't, I can give you a bit more information on what will be available...

On launch the cars and tracks will be evenly balanced between oval and roadcourse racing series, four cars will be from each 'genre', each fully developed with fully operational physics models. We have signed agreements with sixty tracks and should have around nineteen tracks (which give you forty-six different layouts to race on - both oval and roadcourse), completed and ready-to-race at launch. Obviously we're still signing new cars/tracks and still developing those we signed agreements with and scanned, so additional ones will follow.

Thanks,

Tim

i for one would LOVE for EA to lose the rights to make a nascar game. I like nr 2003 but geeze, it's time for a change. I want a nascar game from a company completely dedicated to racing!
