| I doubt it's going to be vapor ware, the part owner just became a partner in Roush Fenway racing, which is the owner of the Red Sox. So to say they have deep pockets is an understatement . They will finish this so that racers in nascar and other circuits can use it for simulation racing for practice. Plus you have Dave Kaemmer behind it all, it will be released and it will be awesome! |

vapor eh? Why do you think John Henry, the owner of the Boston Redsox and the principal funder of iRacing has partnered with Roush? Could it be to lock up a tiny piece of the Nascar pie that is not covered by existing licenses with EA?
You are quite possibly witnessing the most well funded sim in the history of PCs. I have not heard of any promised release date, I have not heard of any problems in production. I HAVE heard about track after track being partnered up. I HAVE heard of laser scanning all over the country. I HAVE seen the side by side video they have on their website.
I am not worried one bit about any vaporishness. I am worried about being able to afford the full product. If you still think this project is all hype, that is your choice. Nothing I have read, nor heard, nor seen even remotely implies a non-existing product.

I have a feeling also that when Ea's license is up, that Roush Fenway racing will be getting a shot, if not exclusive, at least some part of the license so they can do Nascar the right way!
I can hope anyways, it never ceases to amaze me how great NR2003 is even today.

ISI got an F1 car into rFactor by teaming up with Williams/BMW. So even though the F1 license is held by, I think Sony, the individual license with BMW allowed ISI to get the car in the sim.
I suspect something similar will happen with Rousch/Fenway. You'll get just a Ford with maybe 5 paints from Roush and then the modders may do the rest.
Just a hunch, no facts to back this up. The one area that iRacing seems lacking is a big level license partner. Now with Rousch they may have gotten at least a teeny tiny part of that.

Ahhhh, you hit on something else Dave, modding. Remember, these are the guys that did NR2k3? And also remember, they are the ones that tried to sue every tom-dick-and-harry who modded the game? So, as for modding IRacing, I think not, unless you have enough $$ in your wallet to afford frivioulous (yea-yea, I cant spell, sue me too) lawsuits. And even if they say you can mod & give out the tools, I don't think I would trust them (2k3 gave out the tools & you still got sued).
And as for a side by side comaparison, its amazing what a 3d animation program could do you know? Prove to me that came from the sim & I might believe. I still smell somethin, and it aint chocolate |

Your facts are a bit skewed there,aren't they?
They only sued 2 people who went against their wishes of the .exe not being modified.They never sued anyone for putting models in the game.Plenty of mods and tracks have been released since the second person was sued...and as long as you don't modify the exe...you can add about anything you want model wise to the game.
Did they sue you,did they sue me....who did they sue?I know who...do you?
