If you're not familiar with the genre, rally racing retains some of the grassroots spirit the mega-corporate auto events lack. Rally cars are specially designed street-legal vehicles raced independently against a timer along on- and off-road tracks with a co-driver reading pace notes for upcoming sections of the course (to assist the driver in taking hills and turns at optimal speeds and vectors). Rally championships are divided into a series of stages, and winners are determined according to overall combined best times.

When it comes to driving games, there are two essential types: arcade demolition derbies and hardcore replications of real-world physics. Colin McRae Rally 2005 is of the latter species

Shocked Jee, why is this dude writing about something he have no idea? Codies paid him or what?

I get really fed up with people like you bashing CMR all the time, a lot of people don't appreciate it's awesome physics, in fact even in arcade mode it's vastly superior to a game called RBR and XR

I really hate people who bash it espcially someone who mysteriously posts as AJP Smile

I tried rating CMR5 as 1 out of 5 but the score doesn't show up, anyone else have this problem? Confused

Looks like they never reviewed RBR at Gamespy? Would have been interesting to read what the same reviewer would say about RBR, especially about the physics since he says CMR is realistic but doesn't get further than saying that they got the feeling of a car jumping right. "Realistic" has gotten a new benchmark since RBR, so one really needs to take RBR into account when reviewing a rally game and judging its realism.

This is what I wanted to say Wink
To make it clear I don't consider CMR5 as total crap, I think it's fun, but obviously not a sim. Despite of the fact that I hate Codies for what they've done to this title from CMR2, I have to admit that CMR5 seems to be good game as long as you don't look for fresh realistic approach. And XR has a great potential but many bugs (tarmac physics and multiplayer code for instance) and lack of optimalisation took it out of my HD.

"... realistic driving physics"
HA HA HA HA HA Laughing

A 4.5 star review! Oh man, that's funny!
Somebody give this reviewer a copy of RBR so he can get a taste of "realistic driving physics".

I think CMR2 was as close as Codies ever came to a "sim".
