Almost 600 people have downloade the OLD original gpl version
It's on the same download page but only 18mb in size. Check if you are one of the unlucky one's
If you have the correct verison then READ the FAQ that is provided in the GPL 2004 Demo to help you out in case of problems.
Don't worry I 'll help you get it running in no time, unless your trying to install the Demo on a Mac computer or an old 286
Good luck

My best tip would be nr.3
If not try some of the other fixes suggested.
From the FAQ the we put in the GPL 2004 DEMO. Use it
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
General Crash To Desktop (ctd) problems. This can happen immediately, after most cars are drawn in the pit Camera or after a few minutes of driving.
1. Disable the screen saver or power saving settings. The computer doesnt seem to recognize that GPL is running and if the screen saver is set to come on after 10 minutes, GPL will CTD.
2. Your computer is overheating which will happen if youre running maximum graphical upgrades with a lower powered computer OR if your components inside the tower are covered with dust or not getting enough air flow. Youll need to dust off components and/or reduce the graphic settings in the GPL graphics menu or the screen resolution or the FSAA to none.
3. If youre using Windows XP or an NTFS file system, make sure that under the GPL folder > properties > general > advanced, allow indexing service is enabled.
4. Click on Start > Run > type in dxdiag to check for video and sound problems.
5. Run GPL without car graphic upgrades, then upgrade one car at a time.
6. With lower end systems, be careful to not to overwhelm the graphics card or CPU capabilities by reducing the graphics in GPL.
7. The demo allready have all patches so disregard any referals to patches.. Make sure that GPL has been patched properly. If youre running XP, it has to be patched to v.1.2.0.1 at least before it can run. If you have the Sold-Out Software CD, use the patches on the CD in the patches folder. Apply the patches in the order: 1) patch to v.1.2.0.1, 2), D3D patch, 3) fast CPU fix.
8. Theres another program running which interrupts GPL - virus checker, e-mail etc. Use EndItAll https://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,697,00.asp (EndItAll doesn't work with Windows XP) or ctrl-alt-del to close all other programs.
9. GPL is sensitive to IRQ sharing problems. Look in system > properties > hardware > device manager > view > resources by connection > IRQ list to see if your graphics, sound or network cards share an IRQ number with any other hardware.
10. Upgrade your video card drivers.
11. Upgrade to the latest Directx version.
12. Changing to Windows XP or upgrading your computer helps.
13. The newer GPLEA Lotuses need to have all textures in the mirrors on.
14. It might be a problem with the refresh rate when the resolution changes going to the menus (always at 640x480). HZtool might help.
New entry: If you have by mistake applyed the 1.2.01 patch the you will lose the sound fix for all cars.. Re-install the 2004 Demo
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Check the "What's New" html for tips and help, Problems and solutions is in the FAQ html. Use it
Good luck

Ah ok I found the faq and tried the "allow indexing" fix and walla, it worked! So good deal on that.
First impressions? Its got a lot of potential. Sound is completly out of wack at times(hard to describe what it is like for me) but trust me its messed up.
Graphics are great. Physics seem to be inline with the cars age and such. Setup menus are famaliar enough. So far I am enjoying it quite a bit but the sound thing is terrible.
Thanks for the reply. |

Hmm the sound is all important so let's try to fix that too
Post you hardware config, soundcard - Graphics card - DirectX etc.
I need to know the driver version for the soundcard etc.
Have you tried the things suggested in the FAQ about sound problems?
If I can't help you i'll try to get some assistance from Ducwolf who made all the sounds for the demo or Bob Simpson the GPL problem guru nr 1
But first, try to fix it your self by using the FAQ
Good luck

OK, I have a question ...
I own the original GPL on CD ... Now that you revamped my interest in your GPL 2004 Demo update ...
What happens if I decide to install my old GPL ... will I lose the update .or will I be able to plye the demo update and have the addition of all the original tracks play any new track I care to download ...
I will only continue to be intertested if I cant use the updated version. otherwise I will bury the old CD back into the box where it came out off after 2 years of dust collection! |

I looked at original demo, 'bout 8 months ago, after an article here about all the tracks and stuff, and didnt get it.wasnt all that nice, didnt spend much time trying to make it better.
I tried this patched up version, and I am amazed. I spent 5 minutes driving the car over curbs watching the suspension move.... wow.
the cars are amazing.
so the full cd should be here tomorrow.... couldnt find it local at all. you can get any old sierra title ya want as long as it doesnt involve cars. had to order out.
whats the chance you guys could re engineer the demo 2004 to be a patch?Ill gladly add the 65 mod and tracks over, and I have GPLAIM figured out.
I have all the important racing titles already, but until GTR gets here Im gonna run the old school cars |

i read to faq before i posted.
I uninstalled the demo and instead of putting it on my E drive i used the default c and it works. I assume that is a issue with the game.
great physics now the graphics match the physics |

cool, Ill try that as soon as I get my hands on disc. very cool what the community has done with this title. just goes to show how far gameplay goes towards a great game or sim.
BTW, mine is installed on my E drive, works like a champ. I had no problems at all making it work on a very up to date machine
P3.0, 9800pro, XP pro, etc.
get little stutters at beginning with a full field, otherwise its good. |

2re it is way past my bed time, please help a foolish gamer. I downloaded the new demo and immediatly fell in love with this game all over again. I already planned to buy a new wheel tommorow, and placed orders for F1 99-02 and Colin McRae 4. (Logitech MOMO Force Feedback)
Now I have a ton more reasons to buy that wheel.
Now for my problem, I have a hancoring to download a bizzilion tracks and such for Grand Prix Legends. See the quote below from you 2re;
"For example, there are now over 400 tracks made specifically for GPL."
But I can only find 2 tracks on the download page.
https://bhms.racesimcentral.net/GPL/downloads
I looked very carefully. I even looked behind my monitor, I can not find them. Where can I find this treasure?
2re, I left a comment on the download page, unlike this note, it doesn't show my total incompetence.
Also I am getting a head ache trying to figure out this other mystery.
I noticed in the portion of the HTM file I have read so far, that your name is Tore, is it pronounced Two-Ree? I am not sure I will be able to get to sleep with this cunundrum rolling around the tracks inside my head. You may be getting a call by the time you read this. But in the event your telephone does not ring please enlighten me here 2re.
Thank you great God of MODingdom.
