I guess Codemasters is getting lazy. Colin McRae Rally 4 uses tracks from all previous titles. What they changed is the textures and trackside objects. Do you think that is fair? Check the thread for pictures.

ISI and Papy have done this with every successive F1 and NASCAR release they've ever done, so it seems fair enough to me. If they're good tracks and they bring some overall "goodness" to the game, then why should developers waste time re-inventing stuff they already have when they could be spending more time on physics and gameplay issues?

Just my $0.02.

I know what you mean, but these aren't real life tracks. They are fantasy tracks.

Good point, Jure -- still, do you want developers spending time creating NEW fantasy tracks when they could be spending their time and developmental dollars making the physics engine better and improving on gameplay (which seems to be what they accomplished with CMR4)? New tracks AND better physics AND improved gameplay would be great, but if you can only give me two of the three, I'd take physics and gameplay, I think. Similar things are going on with Race Driver 2, for that matter -- and I think Codies spent their time well there. Granted, those are real-world tracks in RD2, so your point is still valid, but I think Codies is keeping their eyes on the right target with CMR4 and RD2.

I will respectfully ask that comparisons are not made between Papyrus racing sims and "Collin Mcrae Rally" games. They are not even close to being in the same category and for every (1) thing that Codemasters has claimed to improve on their rally game from version to version, Papyrus passionately went after (20). We aren't even looking at two developers in the same class or work ethic for that matter. With that in mind, we have to ask ourselves, "What the heck were the CMR04 developers doing for the past year, and why should it demand my $20?" Heaven forbid the CMR04 would cost more than that.

I'll take this one step further and agree that RD2 has made leaps and bounds in the physics department. It's as if RD2 development had some amount of passion in the physics, but CMR04, I just don't see it. The true physics and gameplay improvements from CMR2 to CMR04 - well, the improvement margin just isn't there.

One more thing. RACING games can have and have the same tracks. How many diffrent Mallory Parks can be made? 3. Why 3? Because that`s how many times the track changed it`s shape. RALLY games should have new tracks if those are fantasy ones.

Well...if they have thrown in many more new stages, then I guess you can kinda look at this as a 'bonus'...if you like. Like how NFS4 threw in all of NFS3's tracks in addition to all the new tracks. Smile

This is not really "new" news as pointed out, Codies said ages ago they would be revisiting the older popular tracks, not sure if they picked the real popular tracks though in this case.

Im still more interested in how the rallying in RD2 pans out as they are not using the same physics as CMR4, hopefully it will feel more realistic.
