GTR, GTR2, GT Legends Lobbies Return [14-08-2008 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
After 10TACLE Studios took the matchmaking lobbies for GTR, GTR2, GT Legends offline, developer SimBin has taken control of the situation, and put the servers back online. Here are quotes from SimBin and their cooperative ISP:
We want to make sure that our fans can continue to enjoy our games on line and we are very happy that we could find a fast and positive solution together with KGN" said Henrik Roos, SimBin CEO. "It is of course sad to hear that our former partner has ended up in this situation", added Roos.
"KGN’s K-Play has been supporting 'GTR', 'GTL' and 'GTR 2' from the start and we are proud to be the key service-provider for these great games. Therefore we will continue our service in cooperation with SimBin in spite of the unfortunate insolvency of 10tacle. The cooperation will have K-Play continuing all the online-services for 'GTR', 'GTL' and 'GTR 2' waiving all additional fees and SimBin covering only the arising costs of keeping the server-infrastructure online” said Götz Klingelhöfer, CEO of KGN.

Race2Play Season 4 review
Race2Play's first public season was a great success. Known as "Season 4" (Seasons 1-3 were completed during beta testing), this included:
-- More than 8,000 race participants from 50 countries completing more than a half-million race miles in 500+ events over a 14-week span.
-- 28 different championships, leading to 34 drivers and 34 teams being crowned the champions of their respective series and divisions.
-- Multiple events daily featuring GTR2, rFactor, GT Legends, RACE:WTCC, and NR2003 and their respective mods and addons.
VindexWorks Inc. and the National Auto Sport Association would like to thank each and every supporter and participant for making Race2Play (and NASASimRacing powered by Race2Play) the go-to destination for professionally organized and sanctioned simulated auto racing.

Bring your league to R2P
R2P can help sim racing leagues run and grow. Series can be set up around private or public groups controlled by the league admin, who can invite in new members from Race2Play's vast driver pool. No server dues, no administration on race day, no manually tracking of stats or scoring ... Race2Play does it all! If you would like more information about having your league run a season at Race2Play, contact Tim McArthur.
Release your 'mod' through R2P
The ISI pre-release of the Panoz Esperante add-on through the Race2Play was the first in many pre-releases at Race2Play. Add-on makers reap the benefit of expanded exposure as well as recouping some of the expenses associated with developing the community software. If your mod-group would like more information, contact us.
If your mod-group would like to take part in the development of fully licensed after market add-ons for popular simulations; Race2Play, together with the the National Auto Sport Association, has hundreds of fully licensed cars and tracks just waiting to be brought into the sim-racing world.

GTR 2 Review at Gamespy [22-12-2006 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
The most noteworthy addition in this sequel is the new Driving School mode. It's here that newbie racers will be introduced to the realistic racing of GTR 2. Your first few lessons are literally just driving in a straight line. From there you'll go on to learn the basics of braking, corners, passing, and eventually you'll drive full laps around real-world tracks.

GTR2 Review at Gamefaction [19-12-2006 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
Deciding if GTR2 is right for you boils down to what you want it to be. If you want a next generation hardcore simulation that everyone appears to be waiting for you will probably be left disappointed as GTR2 is more an evolution than revolution.

GTR 2 Review at Pro-G [03-12-2006 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
With fabulous graphics, sublime handling physics, aggressive AI and online competition, GTR was deservedly well received by critics and players alike. The subsequent release of the 1970's inspired GT Legends cemented SimBin's reputation as masters of the racing simulation. So expectations were high when details began to emerge of a sequel to their original opus. Thankfully, GTR 2 doesn't disappoint.

GTR 2 Review at Games First [26-11-2006 | JZ | Comments (1) ]
Sim or Arcade? With the driving genre so saturated with take-your-pick racers some humdrum, some brilliant this is the question asked even before purchasing another racing game. Do you like to take it slow and steady, or tear up the road and watch opponents struggle to see you with all that dust in their eyes? If you want something akin to Need for Speed, then stop reading this review right now: GTR 2 FIA GT is not that kind of racer. GTR 2 is a hardcore simulator.

GTR 2 Review at Game Industry [15-11-2006 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
When GTR came out for the PC last year, I had no idea of how good a racing sim it could be. After being bored to death with the simplistic GT style racing of Sonys Gran Turismo series, it felt good to actually play a GT racing sim that not only looks amazing, but plays well, has a large car grid (six cars is so 90s,) and features challenging AI.

GTR 2 Review at Worthplaying [11-11-2006 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
So, to get the crude breakdown out of the way, GTR2 is a fully 3D racing simulation that attempts (quite successfully) to recreate the events of the GT1 and GT2 championship races that take place all over Europe. It lovingly offers 144 different Grand Tourer (Gran Turismo in Italian, thus GT) vehicles, 34 different tracks, and six game events. This press-sheet breakdown was brought to you by the official GTR2 website and Wikipedia.

GTR 2 Review at Driver Heaven [05-11-2006 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
or the vast majority of people, the chance to race in a Lister Storm on the famous Monza circuit is a fantasy that shall never be accomplished. However, thats where simulation games come in, since they bring you as close as possible to achieving your dreams, without actually putting your life in danger or heavily damaging your wallet. Richard Burns Rally, for example, is fairly realistic and one of the best ways to experience racing down narrow dirt roads in turbocharged monsters. As for on road simulations, quite a few games have existed over the years like rFactor or Live for Speed, but neither of them gained much attention from the mainstream audience due to their difficult accessibility. Thankfully, all this was about to change with the arrival of GTR in March 2005, bringing life-like driving to the masses.

GTR 2 Review at Strategy Informer [01-11-2006 | JZ | Comments (0) ]
Youll be seeing brands and more brands of high quality cars just itching to fly round those tracks. Over 140 grand touring cars have been reproduced; chances are youll find at least one you like. The tracks themselves are realistic and modeled on ones that are actually in service, Spa, Monza and Hockenheim. There are in 34 variations of these tracks in total, which give you plenty to burn up and a variety of courses to test your skills. Multiplayer is excellent and comes practically lag free which is quite the achievement considering all thats involved, of course thats if youre not entirely satisfied with the ever determined and ruthless AI present in the game.
