Description: |
Before you go download this version, please keep in mind this:
It's NOT supposed to be any kind of final, complete, bug-free or fully documented release. It just shows the current status of the project, and it's meant to be taken as a 'teaser' for later, more mature releases.
Ok, that being said, here's how to get it working:
-Open your favourite web browser and go to this URL.
-Download the "data" and "win32binaries" files
-Uncompress them to the same place, for example to c:sims
-Browse to the 'bin' directory, and execute motorsport.exe (e.g. c:simsmotorsport-Evolution1.R240develbinmotorsport.exe).
There's a lot of things to configure via plain text files. They're not documented and some may not be implemented (yet), but feel free to experiment with all the different settings.
Some interesting features you can find in this release:
-Variable time scale. You can play in 'bullet-time' mode and watch the subtleties of the suspension in slowmotion...
-Completely modifiable vehicle physics and setup: modify the Mosp1 and make it become an eight-wheeled car, or maybe a 4-wheel-steering monster truck, ...
-Experiment using moon or jupiter gravity.
-Soften the suspension and try to keep the car on 2 wheels for so long as possible.
-Add 20 giant-cubes to the track and see how they react when being hit by the vehicle.
-Watch the car mesh in wireframe mode and see how the LOD system scales its detail.
-Use 'backspace', 'enter' and 'rightshift' to apply up/downwards forces to the car body and see how the suspension behaves.
-Etc...
Physics are really basic at the moment, so the car won't behave specially realistically, but hey, it's better than nothing ;) . You can (if nothing goes wrong) use you steering wheel and split brake/gas pedals, or just use any of the 2 different keyboard layouts:
-Traditional keyboard layout: cursor arrows for gas, brake, and steering; 'g' for clutch.
-Motorsport special keyboard layout for simmers (for increased precission): the 3 numpad key rows for the 3 pedals, and the alphanumeric pad numbers (1 to 6 to 0) for steering.

Have fun ;)

We here at Team Blackhole Motorsports need your help. As you all know, the team puts in a great deal of effort to provide you with the latest news and downloads from the sim racing world. However, all of this hardwork comes at a steep cost. Until now we have been able to maintain ourselves but recent site popularity is making this more and more difficult. Last month alone we transferred over 1.3TBs (thats 1,300GBs) of data. The cost to provide that much bandwidth is expensive and we need your help to keep us going. We are kindly asking our patrons to use the PayPal donate button to make donations. The PayPal donation is a secure and easy way to send your donations directly to Team Blackhole Motorsports. Please help us by contributing a donation so we can continue to provide you with the latest news and downloads from the sim world. |

Make sure you've downloaded both the binaries and data files. It takes a couple of seconds to load the data (no "loading" screen yet), but you'll notice the cursor changes from white to black. If this doesn't help, post at the forums and we'll try to solve your problem :) |

Oh.. ok. How come all files aren't in a singe zip? Maybe a quick .exe installer would be more user friendly? Will check it when I come home. |
