Hi,
It is time for litte bit rallying again, I haven't been playing RBR for long time for one reason, RBR has best car physics but I hate its graphics because it gives me bad headache and dizzyness, but games like Rally Trophy and CMR doesn't, I wonder why, it must be something to do with RBR colors or camera movement or something like that, its not FOV I tried to change it.
What is next best Rally game today? I haven't tested Dirt or Xpand Rally Extreme which of them is better in car physics and what is most important thing to me is graphics it must be better than in RBR, has anybody played these games and compared them to RBR car physics? |

Well, you are talking about rally games, but RBR is a rally sim (the only one ever released), not a game; so it's not possible to compare RBR with rally games, simply because are different categories. It's a necessary precisation, and no one in the world could disagree with it, I suppose.
About graphics you are right, it's not the best thing in RBR (but nor the most important too in a sim imo), but consider that it was developed by few people with a low budget compared with other productions. Fortunatly, it's possible to improve a little RBR graphics in some ways, and there are many quality addons in the web.
When you say "it gives me bad headache and dizzyness", I can understand you very well, it happens to me all the times that I watch my brother playing with FPS: so unfortunatly RBR is not for you, as First Person Shooters are not for me.
Now your question (sorry if I'm too long and boring!). I've tried CMR Dirt demo last year, and it was as I expect it to be: arcade, arcade, and much more arcade, so it's not for me; but if you like rally games and don't care too much about real physics, it should be funny for a week or two. Most important for you, all the people report an astonishing graphics; I can't say too much about this, because I have an old PC with XP, so no DX10 graphics here; and BTW, I don't like too much those HDR effects because all seems a bit fake to me; but it's very personal, so don't take it in account.
I've tried Xpand Rally Extreme too (last year my brother purchased a PC games review with it), but it lasted few days on my HD. For what I can remember, the physics seems a little better than Dirt, and graphics it's no so bad, but it caused to me some headache (as you report for RBR), so don't feel so comfortable when driving.
So in conclusion, if you want a "state of the art" graphics Dirt is your game; if you want better physics choose Xpand Rally. This is my suggestion, but it's better for you to try both demo version before spending your money. In any case an high-end PC is required (not mine, that's for sure ), especially for CMR Dirt. |

Maybe the best rally GAME is Colin McRae Rally 2.0 but it's dated. I had much fun with that game, and it had the best physics of all CMR's (IMHO).
I haven't tried Xpand Rally but I played a demo of DIRT on my PS3. The demo didn't stay on my PS3 for a 2nd play! Breaking from 200 kmh to zero in 10 meters or so. Not my kind of thing.
In the past years I also played some WRC games on the PS2 that felt better than DIRT.
But RBR is no. 1 for me. You are very unlucky to get a headache from such a fine simulation |

Yeah, it could be motion sickness or something like that, I guess I have to pass Xpand Rally Extreme, I watched some videos from youtube and they already game me some sickness even I didn't play the game, I have to consider getting CMR Dirt. How about FlatOut2 or FlatOut Ultimate Carnage they are based on Rally Trophy engine, it shouldn't give me too much sickness when playing them, has anybody tried those games? |

I absolutely agree with you.
@Quenaelin:
about FlatOut series, I have not tried them, but for what I know are arcade games with some simulated physics, so about the driving model forget Rally Trophy, that is a sim compared to FlatOut I suppose. BTW, if I can remember seems that they don't have official license for cars, as Xpand Rally too.

I would choose FlatOut. It offers enjoyable handling both with wheel or keyboard. It has well optimised, really good looking graphics, and a great damage model with a lots of destructable objects.

when I played FPS games (CS) I had to take pills that you normaly use for travelsickness and that worked for me!
I gave up that kind of games and only do RBR but not as often as I did before but its still the best rally sim/game.
The travelsickness comes sometimes for me when playing RBR also but its usually when I am tired and look to close to the car and not concentrate on the road far ahed also.
Try this and hope you can play!
Good luck!

I decided to play Rally Trophy again, it is still best rally simulator game out there. No headache or motion sickness for me during playing, graphics is smooth and not stuttering like in RBR. Great game! I am really recommending this game for anyone not played it before. It is still realistic simulator, because I really have to learn to drive again after taking some brake in playing and this game helped me a lot when I was participating in real rallycross tryout event couple years ago where I was third, maybe if I hadn't played RT so much I wouldn't have no chance to take any medals |

Before RBR release, Rally Trophy was the only rally title to be considered as a sim, not a simple game, so your recommendation is quite right. |

If it's not too late to suggest, I play RBR with my monitor refresh rate @75 hz or higher. If your monitor can't go that high, you have to use a smaller game or desktop resolution to be able to use 75 hz or higher.
Then make sure the 'vsync on' or 'force vsync on' is enabled in graphics card and/or in-game settings. If your graphics card is fast enough, it will lock your fps at 75fps or whatever your monitor refresh rate is. Then RBR will be silky smooth all throughout!!
RBR seems to be bugged when locked at 60 fps if your refresh rate is 60 hz, it stutters a lot even with a very fast graphics card. Other games doesn't have this problem.
