Greetings, I cannot find official racing rules for Nascar or IRL anywhere. My question is about passing below the white line on oval tracks. Is it legal to advance your position while passing below white line (on the apron) in either series. I am having a dispute about this issue.

The second issue is holding the Low Line while in first place. Is that legal in both series?

Thanks, Prezz

If you're talking about the REAL WORLD racing series, the only tracks at which you cannot pass below the apron boundary line are Daytona and Talladega in NASCAR events.. The IRL has no such rule in place..

As for "low-lining", again, in the real world, there are no rules against it.. The IRL is a little more exact with their ruling on blocking though.. In the IRL, you are allowed to make ONE move, and ONE move only to defend your position.. A 2nd move will result in a black flag and a stop and go penalty.. NASCAR is less consistent, meaning they only uphold the rules for drivers they don't like.. (Just ask Regan Smith) LOL!!

As far as sim-racing is concerned, leagues must determine what rules they choose to use.. Almost every league I've ever run in has had a rule in place about low-lining at certain tracks in certain series.. Typically, it's been something to the effect of the leader may run the low line and maintain position for a maximum of five laps.. With the changes to these tracks for some sims, this is no longer really necessary.. The high side at both Daytona and Talladega for the BR and TR versions for N2k3 can be used effectively IF the drivers know how to run the high line.. Still, how that rule is upheld on those tracks is up to the administration to decide..

Hey Prezz.. Yeah.. He's running the rFactor IndyCar mod at a website/league called ZimdyCar.. Phenomenal mod that puts the N2k3 version of the OWR mod to shame.. Heheh.. I built a new computer for him a while back and he's been hooked on rFactor ever since.. Very Happy
