Wednesday, June 11, 2008 - iRacing.com, which is introducing an innovative Web-based motorsport simulation and internet racing service, today announced the opening of a completely revamped public Web site. The new site, www.iracing.com, features product information, testimonials from professional racers, news and video. Most importantly, it is the sole point of purchase for subscriptions to the iRacing service.

"As the only place you can subscribe to the iRacing service, our Web site has to address the needs of all of our prospective customers, who represent a wide variety of motorsports participants and enthusiasts," said Scott McKee, iRacing's vice president of marketing. "This new site conveys a lot more information than our previous site, and it does so in a more user-friendly and visually interesting way, making it even easier to understand our service, register for news updates or buy a subscription and get started racing online."

Although development of iRacing's simulation software and internet racing service will continue indefinitely, the company recently completed beta testing and has commenced a gradual public launch process, in which the new public site will play a key role.

"In order to maintain a high-quality customer experience, we're being careful to grow our community slowly," explained McKee. "For at least the next couple of months, we'll be adding new members by invitation only. Some of those invitations will go to people nominated by our beta testers and some will go to our corporate partners - graduates of Skip Barber Racing Schools, for instance - but individuals can secure one of those early invitations for themselves, too, just by registering for updates on the new public site. The registration database will be a primary source for our invitation list."

Visitors to the new iRacing site will see a short, introductory flash video, showing clips of on-track action from within the iRacing simulation as well as footage from physical-world racing. From the home page, visitors can investigate various aspects of iRacing's service, including testing/training, racing and community, as well as the technology behind the simulation and the cars and tracks currently available.

"The new public site will be refreshed frequently," said McKee. "Not only will we have regular news updates, but we'll be adding new product information, new features, a merchandise store, and, of course, once we've completed the invitation-only phase of our launch, we'll open up the subscription function to the general public."

Race games that are more like "Grid" will capture the big market of automobile racing. IF only Codies where more computer friendly!
Iracing is like reading a technical manual, to experience what racing is like.
In comparison, Grid is like seeing the movie "Grand Prix" in Cinemascope.
One is almost purely intellectual. The other appeals to the physical
senses, and the whole racing experience.
Codies has a chance to grab the racing market. If they would only get on the stick and fully appeal to the computer market.
Companies like Atari, (TDU), also have the ability to capture the racing
market. If they wanted too. (modern game engine)
I can't see Iracing reaching much more of a market then those "real"
race drivers. Who are willing to spend the money for subscriptions; to
get track time (practice). For real races. Other then that, Iracing looks
very boring, for those looking for entertainment.

Iracing is a little like Rfactor at the begginning. Lacking substance and content. But now that the foundation of the sim is built, they can focus on more content. Just like Rfactor, it's the content that keeps us loading it up. And just like Rfactor, that's what will attract me to Iracing. Right now, none of their cars really "do it" for me. I need some stock Vipers, or maybe the Z06-C6 Vette etc to get my adrenaline pumping. My right foot needs something to control too. I'm holding out till they get more content, then I will most likely dive in. We've got good "race-cars" in Rfactor, just like Iracing has. But what Rfactor and Iracing lack, is an accurate simulation of a street-car.
-Right now the Legends car is the only thing that looks fun, but I want to see more street-stock classes. 99% of their cars are track only cars.

what physical senses? those guys finally discovered the force feedback or they still count on you knocking your head into walls because the damn thing sucks just like the one before it?

does this iRacing has a free demo for download or do you have to proceed through satanic rituals to get to it?

WTF, way too much money. I doubt it will ever really succeed at that price. No drafting, pitting, AI, track selection, etc. What the hell?

You get point's taken for rubbing someone's fender? For going off the tarmac? WTF? 200+ bucks? WTF? WTF? WTF? Way too much $$, way too much. Rolling Eyes

I like the laser scanned tracks and whatnot, but how good can it be if there is not even drafting being simulated?

they've put alot of money into it, maybe too much, and is not really an easy selling service so they kinda have to make it expensive.
utopic racing for a small elitist bunch at best, but its funny because the minimum system requrements for iRacing are not really hinting to some unmatched experience, but then again, is not for casual pockets anyway.

The preview says the track art and effects are not the point, so the specs may not be as steep as usual for such a forward jump.

Doesnt anyone remember the legal threats ad crap that this company started over the mods for NC2003. They tried to kill that (very unsuccessfully I will add) while trying to bolster their own product. Im sorry but I liked 2003 and wont forgive them for their bully tactics either... I wont be playing this one. The cost and features just don't add up. Basically looks like another rich A-hole trying to corner a market.

iracing.com can go screw themselves..I hope they lose a buttload of money on this ill conseaved adventure.

LOL at above post, but yeah, they did not do themselves any favors by bullying the sim racing crowd a couple years ago, now wanting their full support.

After reading the A.S.S. mag preview, it sounds like it may be a great sim as far as the driving feel goes and whatnot- but what it lacks, and for the cost-- the huge cost, I don't think it will succeed in the long run.

If it were more reasonably priced they might have a chance, but as it is? With the economy the way it is now? Good luck to them if they think there will be ENOUGH people to pay that price for the sim to succeed. If they lower the price, maybe it will work.

price is probably "fine" if you consider what they offer (in theory atleast), i mean we pay alot more for gfx cards and wheels anyway. what is odd is you don't own the content, apparently you loose everything when and if you stop paying the fee, you are also bound to their license, it seems you will not be able to use a car or a track in the moment they loose the rights for it.
i dunno, it still seems more realistic to provide a free public demo with a couple of cars and tracks to atleast show off what they really have to offer.

i cannot stop thinking about how easy dr can blow up iracing (if and when will be released) Smile
