Codemasters today announced that Race Driver: GRID, the racing game previously known as Race Driver One, has been approved for manufacturing and will be available on May 30th for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 - a Nintendo DS edition will follow. In related news, Codemasters has released the final car and track lists. The PC demo is locally mirrored here - the Xbox 360 demo was in the top ten most-played games on Xbox Live Last week, coming in at number 8, making it the highest-placed racing game.

I've now tried the demo. I actually like it but I did have quite a bit of trouble getting it setup at first....(specifically the driver profile). The demo would not save the settings initially. Codemasters still makes this aspect too difficult in my opinion. On to the good parts..... The game is 'pretty'. The Embarcadero here in San Francisco never looked so good in a game...any game. The SF Bay Bridge looms overhead as you powerslide and drift your power drenched Mustang through the field, hoping for that top three position. Codies still make the best, most 'life-like' road textures. The cheering crowd is better done than in any sim to date. Most importantly, you get all that at an incredible framerate. All in all...a win win. It's pure fun.

whats really puzzling is they haven't really figured out yet the name of the game engine they use; there are atleast 4 names i've run into, "Ego", "Neon", "PlayStation Scene-Graph" and remotely "PhyreEngine" ... it may look pretty if you have a PC to max it out but still, give the damn thing a name or just not give one at all, but then again, they are the codemasters Smile

whatever they call it, at this point, what it really matters is if they'll use starforce or not. Evil or Very Mad

I think codemasters should change the "Gone Gold" phrase to "Gone Brown!!" Why not? They call arcade racing... simulation, so why not change the name of other things too. Next thing you know realism will be their specialty...
