Hi Smile

I wonder, is it possible to make silver metallic paint, on the car?

Of course, It's not impossible.
You can describe minute metalic particles as PS2 noise effect.

But in my guess, It's feel not only good. also seems easy as grey.

Other way is photography of siver metalic image. Surprised

And how do you do this in RBR?

I think he means PS2 as in Photoshop CS2, i.e. using the noise filter to create the minute particles you see on metallic paint work up close.

(Although I doubt there'd be many circumstances where there is a close enough view of the car to notice this in RBR.)

Giorgio, perhaps you can post some advice on shader settings, you seem to be an expert at these?! Wink

I don't know the exact technique, but they got a very metallic look on the 07 Abu Dabi ford skin.

Perhaps nanamiso could give you some pointers. I think it's some sort of shader with high reflectance. Since the 'color' of silver is really just light grey, the metallic nature of it comes from the reflectance. I don't know how to create that in a skin, but it's definitely possible.

Oops.. my mistake!! It's CS2. not PS2.

and nanamiso's skin is nearly chrome.

It's too high reflect as metalic paint. Smile

Indeed I thought by PS2 he meant Pixel Shader model 2.0... my mistake. It jsut sound fascinating, I mean the possibility to set something in RBR to have carpaints set to be shaded like realistic metallic paint.

...yeah, almost Wink

Anyway, I can't remember precisely, but was Nanamiso the one working on some 207 S2000 livery with chrome bits on it? The one playing with the alpha channel to obtain reflections seen on the notoriuos AbuDhabi 2007 Ford Focus with the chrome bits just on selected areas?
So far the best metallic finishes I've seen so far are those on some Hyundai Accents and on Hanninen Evo9 skin (can't remember the authors' names though). They were basically preshaded textures to simulate metallic shades, but they were very good looking.

BongChun did the Hyundai Accents, and what an excellent job he did of them too! Very Happy He released a template as well, but there was no seperated shadow/highlight layer. Sad I'm really keen to do a skin of Marcus Dodd, multiple ANCRO British Gravel champion! Cool
