just a couple tips.
If you plan on going to windows vista i would suggest a better card due to the fact games run an avg. of 10fps slower. personally i have an 8800gts 320mb card and it plays beautifully. i also have nr2003 and it barely goes down below 30fps but any other newer game plays much smoother. i did a little research and found this review for you on toms hardware for you.
https://www.tomshardware.com/2007/05/17/performance_value_for_dx10/
it doesnt show the 8500gt but it shows the 8600 class and up so it should just give you an idea of what your card would be capable of. it also states that the 8800gts itself is the best budget card out there if you want good game play and graphics.
i also have a core 2 duo E6400 which is not to far off of your processor...the E6400 can easily be overclocked to the 6600 series and up on stock cooling.
i hope any of this will help you

Advice needed here - on a new laptop with Vista Home Premium
I'm a bit unsure about this cuz I don't know how VHP does with games - Grand Prix Legends, NR2003+GTP, Richard Burns Rally, Rally Trophy, GTR/GTR2 & GTL.
I'm not even gonna try running Rally Championship 2000 on this. I'm pretty sure it won't work.
Anyway some specs:
#1 - Within the budget - there's a bigger chance that we'll end up with this
Intel Core 2 Duo T7100 (1.8Ghz, 2MB, 800Mhz FSB)
1 GB DDR2 533Mhz.
ATI Mobility Radeon X2500 (256Mb Dedicated, 768Mb Shared)
14.1" WXGA TFT LCD
160 GB SATA HDD
#2 - Slightly over budget BUT very tempting
Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 (2.0Ghz, 4MB, 800Mhz FSB)
2 GB DDR2 533Mhz.
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
15.4" WXGA TFT LCD "CrystalBrite"
160 GB SATA HDD
I read something about Vista being better with ATI (except for OGL)?
Any feedback on how these games would run with Vista Home Premium?
Someone suggested I could try a dual boot - Vista & XP. But the tech guy at the shop said they tried it - & they wouldn't advise it.
Any advice or suggestions? or feedback? |
