A Flatout 2 demo is available, offering the chance to test drive Bugbear's racing sequel. The demo includes two tracks, two special events, and three drivable cars, with no driver's license required.

I agree. Whenever there is a demo available for download it should be specified what copy protection it comes with, if any, because it is not fair to trick people into downloading crap on their computer. |

This game is genius! Congratulations Bugbear!
Much better physics, feel and variation of beautiful tracks and cars. The possibility to wreck the car makes one respect his limits and makes crashing your opponents into walls and such much more rewarding.
Best arcade racer there is.. Rock n Roll |

Shame I'll never be able to play it because I'll never put that crap (Starforce) on any PC I build.

I've never once had a problem with Starforce. Guess some people's systems are just more vunerable for whatever reason. No-one I know has had problems with it. The demo is great, a big improvement over FO1, with much better graphics, sounds, and seems more thoughtout.

don't count on that, like 2 weeks ago i've seen the beast in action again, on a relatively new and clean system, PD3.4ghz , 1gb RAM 667mhz and co., the problem was random system lock without any obvious cause, after some checks, i went into defragmenting with Diskeeper, well defragmenting which usually takes like 2-3 minutes or less, looked like will take forever, the reason : the brave StarForce Driver installed by TrackManiaNations.
after removing the sf driver all went to normal, defrangmenting as expected and guess what, the damn game also worked, ofcourse i've uninstalled it too, i've just lost any sense of fun using a product created and released by somebody who doesn't give a s*** about your system's health.
yes this is bashing and you may be right if you say is not proving anything,
but it was there and i'm sure it can happen again, and if does happen to you
your friend will be : SFDRVREM.EXE, this is the starforce drive removal tool, google it just in case. |

I have built all my own PC's for the last 8 years.. and many other PC's for my family and whatnot. I have seen the problems with Starforce drivers first hand on clean systems. I have had to reinstall Windows to get things working properly quite a few times over the years because of the problems happening directly after installing a demo that had Starforce.. The last one was the GTR demo when it came out.. I learned my lesson- never again will I install any Starforce drivers, if I want to play the game or not.

Copy protection or not, this game rocks! Due to time constraints I havent even got Race yet, but I ordered FO2 immediately after playing the demo.
RT deformation and damage physics are nuts. One example is when speeding under a bridge lower end thinking I would end up stuck, and instead passed thru with my roof squeezed down half way.. even making the car look cooler. Glass shatters, metal crumples and hundreds of parts flying all over the place, all with proper physic and simulated sounds when bouncing around. Its even fun watching some wrecking in slowmo during replays thx to Bugbears in-house physics engine. One can only dream Simbin could do something equally convincing with the ISI engine for Race 2.
In the end, even the videos showing Motorstorm (IGN) for the PS3 looks boring after having a go in FO2. Great stuff!
EDIT:
Dont know if FO2 is modable or not, but I remember some interesting details from an old interview with Bugbear. The simulation is all about pure physics from the ground up but with lots of driving aids applied to make it more accessible.
How about a patch that would strip away those aids? FO2 got in car views for all vehicles and with less aids I would love to try it out with my MOMO instead of the keyboard. |
