note :
- this is wip;
- requires Pixel Shader 2 support.
- massive FPS drop on older video cards, my 6600 is on the edge;
- in some situation artifacts are visible;
installation:
-extract and copy the content of rar file in "..\Richard Burns Rally\Plugins\"
-in case of "missing dll" error look for the file in case on web;
ussage:
-numpad keys:
7,4 adjust the light intensity;
8,5 adjust the light range;
(also check the light.ini)
-test.dds controls the light intensity, so in case you want your own map:
horizontal - maps the intensity of light in raport with angle;
vertical - intensity map for distance;
-texture size is not important, bigger means more precise, also, only red channel
is actually used;
uninstall:
- delete the "light.dll" file and the "lightproj" folder;
major "bugs":
- refuses to work with, RBRDll, it seems no cure is posible;
- it may not work with other RBR plugins, yet it should work with "z.dll".
- don't rush to thank for this mod, it will most probably make you very seriously
think that you need a new PC.

I downloaded it and i glad that you uploaded it that soon.
But when i extract the folder and the light.dll my burns dont want to start. I tested to put my Wally plugin out of the folder, but it wasnt that easy. I dont have RBRDll installed. And know is my question what can be this problem.
My graphic card is a Asus Radeon AX700pro.

yeah, sorry about that, it was a little "bug", redownload or make a new folder called : "dumpdx" in c:\ , like "c:\dumpdx".

Sorry to say this, I have the very same problem as geofre .
But I tested it a littlebit and have to say that its great! Driving it with the Skoda Fabia with extra lights was another feeling I can tell you!

Can it be my graphic card? "Asus Radeon AX700pro 256mb"

in my PC works Excelent.

Yes yes... I�ve completely deleted all files in PLUGINS folder, but problem still there. Maybe like Nizmo says it is caused by GPU. We both have ATi and you have nVidia.
Edit:
and E.Zalaieta have also nVidia and it�s working fine. So it really look like ATi GPU have problem with it.

maybe, i've just reinstalled rbr and used the rar posted here, all seems ok.
get last drivers and last directx, disable any AA or other filters if any.
so far i have confirmation only for nvidia cards, but it should not matter in theory, shaders are compiled on the fly so no optimisation for a specific brand is done or intended to.

Dont know if the problem is the ATi card, but maybe? Because i tested the night mod on my original RBR, and it is the same as before.

HOLY DOODOO !!
I love this - I used to love rallying at night - tried this and I'm having flashbacks.
And - yes- it just eats framerate. Daylight I get 140 200 fps with Athlon 3800+ and 6600GT 128mb DDR3 - with night mod - as low as 40 - max. 65. Guessing avg. is about 50-55 fps. Hard to drive - especially slow corners where fps is lowest - hesitations.
About third to half the time it will CTD most of the way into the stage.
Checked GPU temp - 71C - same as usual.
AA off anisotropic off.
Great Stuff black !! Hope there is a way to get fps up.
BTW - Are you the guy who stole my Cibie Super Oscars ?? - this mod makes me suspicious - lighting effect is so realistic - when car bounces/turns lights follow. Just love it !!
