Hey guys!
Just wanted to let you know that this game is sweet, and now that it's supposedly available in U.S. stores, you should not hesitate to buy it.
Now, to the unavoidable question: Is it any better than Richard Burns Rally?
No game is better than the allmighty RBR.
Having said that, this game is a very strong showing. And graphically, it does kick any rally game's ass HARD. And your graphics card's, too, if you're not up to date on hardware.
The need to build up the car from stock up to near WRC specs is very satisfying, although the game lacks a standard rally like stage-to-stage sequence, but it's actually set up to be very entertaining. The first cars are dificult to control, but once you get a 4WD, the game shines!
Now the controls can be a pain in the ass . I use a Logitech Wingman FormulaForce GP, and without the Logitech Profiler, it's virtually unplayable. Spare yourself the frustration, and set wheel axis sensitivity to about 20% from the profiler. Also the pedals. Then you should have a clean run at it.
One thing that was an obvious flaw is that for some reason they did not give the cars a handbrake. It simply does not exist. You have been warned.
Xpand Rally has a very authentic, un-ColinMcRae2005 like feel to it, and from the last four years of rally gaming, it's second only to Richard's jewel of simulation bliss.
