I heard rumours that the demo lacked any way to test multi-player, and that the cockpit was also missing/restricted. Any of that true?

Yes, it is true that the demo does not have multiplayer. The cockpit is there, but the LCD on the steering wheel is nonfunctional.

The demo contains the slowest car and one track.

There are some people who are having problems, but those who aren't seem to be enjoying the game.

I certainly like it.

Well, I saw a video posted and the LCD was working, so you might have to turn it on. I also heard people talking about online, but that may be available only if you purchase, I don't know yet as I haven't got to try the demo.
But, at RSC, under NetKar forum, there are over 10 pages of "first impressions" of what people thought...

It is like starting all over in a good way. It takes skille to navigate the car thru turns...also to shift right. This is not an easy simulation, but it does remind me of acually racing a real ca,r around a cicuit, and that is a good thing.

There appears to be a workaround to the LCD not working in the demo.

I haven't tried it to verify it works so but it's from a reputable source so don't shoot me if it doesn't work. Here goes:

Reputable Source wrote:
1. Save Replay
2. View Replay
3. Press "r" and F3 twice
4. Start car and AIM boots up!

While viewing the replay you just saved, hold down 'r' and hit 'F3' a couple of times and you will be put right back in the pits in your car, only this time when you fire it up the wheel display will come on. But it is not permanent- you have to do the trick each time.
