On friday march 31 the the source code for richard burns rally was aquired by the swedish sim racers foundation.
The source code was previously owned by Gizmondo Europe Ltd, which was declared bankrupt earlier this year, and has now been purchased from the bankruptcy estate. The price of the sale was undisclosed. President of the SSRF, Nicklas Karlsson says, in a statement that "When we read about the bankruptcy of Gizmondo, we felt that this was a great opportunity to aquire the source code for the RBR project, and make it available to sim racers all over the world". According to the statement
Kangaroo, the track editor used to create the tracks for RBR, will be the first application to be released. Later on the whole source code for RBR will be made availabe to the public, but not before the physics component has been replaced. Nicklas Karlsson continues "RBR is very highly regarded in the sim community, however some aspects of the code are not up to the standards of the newly released sims, this is why we have chosen to replace the physics component.

why aren't they using the physics component? That was the best part of RBR, and I hardly believe that newer sims have superior physics to this game.
Intriqueing. Would be nice to see this game engine used in other types of games though |

I have a healthy suspicion of big announcements coming out on a particular day of the year. |

Some of us are still in March for a few more hours. But if you are already into the next, no excuse for you! |

Nothing on the SSR site...Nothing on RSC Forums...
This could only mean one thing...
HOAX
If this is an April Fool's Day joke, You can bet BHMS ain't never gonna hear the end of this. What a cruel thing to do to the RBR community.
This is a huge announcement, I have to admit it is almost too good to be true.
I ain't buying into it until I hear something from SSR.
If this is a joke, shame on you BHMS!
Although this does bring up the question...Where exactly is the code, and IS it for sale for the right price? I would find it hard to believe a group of people would buy the code, and then release it to the public. That is like buying Trump Tower in Manhattan, and then turning it into a friggin' soup kitchen.

Why not just make up a Codemasters press release promising their upcoming titles will feature uncompromising realism through superior graphics, sound, handling and a physics engine built from the ground up?
Oh wait....
They already do that themselves. |
