After many months of typing, I have completed my first revision of the Xpand Rally Map Making Tutorial. Unlike the first stage V0.01 I released back in ?February? which only covered height maps, this version is complete. Very Happy

This tutorial covers everything from making a height map from scratch up to adding in the track, doing the textures, adding vegetation, adding objects such as bridges, and finally making the light maps for everything. It consists of 152 pages filled with screen captures and some lengthy chatter by myself. Shocked

If you have never made a map before (that would be me before writting this thing - I'm a first time mod'er), you should be able to easily follow the steps to create your own Xpand Rally map that everyone can enjoy. Most of the development has been done working with the crowd at R.E.G. so if your interested in following its progress, check it out in the Xpand Rally Chrome Editor section. In the future there will be revisions to deal with issues that I am currently discussing with Techland with their tools, so it will only get better.

To download the tutorial, check out this link:

If you have any comments, please share as I'm always interested in making it better.

For those of you Richard Burns players who want to make their own maps (it looks like its coming along, but not quite there yet), take a break from the ultra realistic physics of RBR and relax a little with Xpand's relaxed physics, but still very entertaining game play and make a map or two. I'm currently working on building a Pikes Peak map that covers a 12km by 12km square covering most of the mountain. If your interested in learning how I'm doing this, check the tutorial out and see how easy it is with Xpand Rally. Cool

Thanks for the compliment! I'm hoping more people get involved with this game in the future as it really is a lot of fun. With it being released in April 2006 in North America, at a $20 USD price, there will hopefully be a flood of new users.

I have my fingers crossed!

I also have the original version. I do not know for sure, but I don't see Techland moving away from what they had. They are just starting a new project called Xpand Rally Xtreme so things should change with that, I hope. I would expect the US release of Xpand Rally to be identical to the European release, Starforce and all - ugh! Regardless, the game is great and really didn't get the recognition it deserved. With a US release, hopefully it takes off and becomes more popular. If more people were playing, making tracks would be much more enjoyable.
