I installed the Nextell 2005 car set but I'm not sure if I did it right or if I installed it into the right place. And, I put my own car in the paint res and edited the drivers txt, but when I went into the game to see my car it was solid white and I can't remember why that happens or how to fix it
Can someone please help me!!
Thanks

yours was the only white one? that's very odd. try renaming the paint.res as PAINT256.RES |

Ooooops I accidently put my tga file into the paint res instead of the tex file!!! Now I really feel like an idiot I'm gonna have to stop workin so hard and so many hours!!
But, now that I have no white cars, the custom paint job on mine is scrambled. I checked the drivers tex and it looks ok, but obviously that doesn't mean anything Can someome show me an example of what the entry in the drivers tex should look like for my car (431)??
Thanks

Well, if the car and paint are showing, you probably have the drivers.txt correct. What version of PSP did you use to paint the car? I use PSP 7.0 but I believe with some higher versions you have to flip the tga.
Here's typical drivers.txt entry.
SPACE before
table Driver
number 431
name Whoever you want
chassis XXX - XXX is the CAR file XXX.CAR file in the mod
rank 1
race_image 100
body_style fcar
end
SPACE after
Note, if this is the last entry in the drivers.txt before the Pace Car (if ones used), then you need second END with a space between them. |

I'm using Adobe Photoshop7.0 and by the looks of what you typed I have the drivers txt correct as well hmmmmmmm, well I'm sure it'll come to me sooner or later, I used to be extremely good at editing almost every aspect of Nascar Heat but it's been so dang long I'll remember I'm sure of it!
Thanks RickB99

I knew I'd remember when making a custom paint job and editing the drivers txt the car number has to be 3 digits (unless you want to replace a game car) and your actual car number (mine is 43) has to be the last 2 digits not the first two. I had named mine car431.txt and the game was looking for car 31 so I had to rename my txt file to car143.txt and edit my drivers txt accordingly My car shows up now and looks quite nice .
RickB99, I jst wanted to say thanks for your help, i know it isn't easy sometimes to find someone whos willing to answer questions about editing Nascar Heat. Thanks man

Uhmmm ... Not quite correct...
You can use one, two, or three digit numbering, either packed in the PAINT.RES, or loose in the mod's folder. As long as it correctly matches the entry in the DRIVERS.TXT your fine.
Now... There are some rules/exceptions...
You can NOT use a leading zero in the TEX name; so you can't name it CAR007.TEX, or CAR07.TEX (Dave Blaney's number this year). You have to name it something like CAR507.TEX (with the DRIVERS.TXT entry being "number 507")
Also, if a paintjob already exists in the PAINT.RES, like your example of CAR43.TEX, for Jeff Green... And if you put a different paintjob also named CAR43.TEX in that mods main folder, the game engine will always choose the texture in the PAINT.RES file, and ignore the loose one. In this case, you would need to rename your loose file to be CAR143.TEX. So your example of naming your car CAR431.TEX should have worked... It should NOT have been trying to find the CAR31.TEX in the PAINT.RES (unless there was the longshot that the creator had already put an ALTERNATE paintscheme for the 31 car in there, and named it CAR431.TEX).
If you put an entry in the DRIVER.TXT file that doesn't match either in the PAINT.RES, PAINT256.RES or a loose TEX file... It will give you a blank, all-white car model on the track.
And, if you really screw up an entry in the DRIVERS.TXT file, no matter what mod, it will usually cause the game to revert back to the original, generic 1999 Cup paintjobs that came with the game (assuming of course, you've installed the game off cdrom, and aren't just using Mask's really cool Heat Essentials package... I have no idea what a bad entry will cause that to do.. probably toss out a Heat error log I imagine).
And then... There's all red cars... I think (it's been a while) that's when your videocard can't handle the PAINT.RES and need to rename the PAINT256.RES to be PAINT.RES (or is it vice-versa?).
Ok...enough of that... gonna go home now and get back to work on the IROC Heat mod. (oh so close to done LOL )
