More cars than ever before from rally¡¦s past, present and future are brought to life in realistically interactive surroundings - drive over 40 awesome vehicles through
FEATURES
1) More cars than ever before from rally's past, present and future, a total of 40 vehicles
2) Multicar wheel to wheel racing. Seems like we might be seeing the "arcade" mode from CMR 2.0 - cool!
3) People have been talking about how cool it would be to pass some of the slower competitors on the road. Well, look at the Focus in the movie with the engine broken. Seems like WRC5 will feature this wish.
4) Moving obstacles while driving. Look at those boulders that hits the road which causes the driver to run on the left side of the road to avoid them.
5) The damage model seems to have gone through improvements.
Here's the link to the info: https://www.playstation-e3.com/index.html?jumpTo=en_GB Click on "Games" and "Playstation 2" and then scroll down to "WRC: Rally Evolution" on the lefthand side. (Theres also a video on that site as well.. check it out! You can see retired cars on the track as other cars past by! ) |

Looks great. I just hope they keep the brilliant handling/physics of WRC4 . |

At least someone is paying attention to what gamers want! Too bad it probably wont be released in the United States for the US PS2 version. |

I really hope the graphics are better, coz they are worse than the first pics evos gave us of wrc 4 at this time last year:P hehe.. Hope it wouldn't be to arcadish though, a proper career mode would be great! Good handling too i hope for.. But the part with forrest fires and all that other crap, WHAT THE ****? We're not looking for a death rally feature!:S:S

Handling - full-on. Optional driver aids damp out the oversteer/understeer, wheelspin - pretty tough without these on joypad but much easier with a DF Pro wheel - provided you have 1-2 turns lock to lock. With the driver aids it's like CMR4/5, even easier than WRC4. No fake forces though, it just helps you with the controls.
Surfaces - more than 30. Tyre choices affect grip and wear. Slip angle/ratio- tyre force model from real data.
Damage - progressive - engine temperature/cooling model - affected by ambient temperature and pressure, collisions, intake damage. Wheel and tyre damage present.Repairs based on the wrc rules.
Differentials - locking diffs using maps of speed, control input etc. Diff setup tweaks, not RBR-style, more on the lines of choosing pre-defined maps.
Suspension - geometric suspension from real car data - MacPherson struts, trailing arms etc. Separate setups for spring, damping and ride-height - probably low ride with loose springs causes increased risk of damage.
Oh yes, and 50 frames/second.. it looks much better live than in those screenshots...

Thank you for the great info DoctorDiffs !
Its nice to see you guys did great improvements ! Does this mean that the car will break down and force player to retire?
Also, in what areas do you improve the tyre simulation, how is the grip affected? And what type of choices is available?
Regards,
Cotas

Hello there Cotas!
As far as I know retirement will still be only a player choice, but the car can get sufficiently broken that it will be the only sensibly option.
Last year's tyre model was actually one of the most detailed in any game, and it's still there. This year the different tyre types have varying behaviours on the different surfaces - so you can choose intermediate tyres for a semi-wet stage, giving less-than-ideal grip on wet and dry tarmac but overall better than choosing a pure wet or dry tyre. I think it's 6 tarmac tyres, three gravel and three snow.
There's some other really, really good stuff that I just can't tell you just now. Suffice to say rally fans will be made very happy with what's coming!

Thank you DoctorDiffs! Its nice to hear from you
The addition of tyre choice is just wonderful! It means more tactics planning for players which does make a difference. Great News !
Regarding the tyre in WRC4, I didn't recall if I did ever break it. Will it now be possible that it will wear down too much and break - that player might need to reconsider their driving styles ? What are the new elements you introduced in the WRC5 to make the game challenging?
This is something I really like about WRC4 - there is a cheat codes to make the car actually break down that it won't move any more when the damage is too bad. I hope there is something like this in WRC5 They just make the game a lot more interesting!
Ah, this might be a little off-topic - will WRC5 features more varieties of 'junctions'? For example, the ones in WRC3 and 4 are always right-angle (90 degree) turn off, where the real world's junction are of more varieties, therefore is more unpredicable in my opinion.
After reading all the news about it, It seems EvoStudios does take player's opinion into consideration! I am now really looking forward to WRC5! Please keep up the great work and thank you for spending time with us

Hmm... everyone must be very busy. Does anybody know of a good forum or site that has more discussion on the WRC: Rally Evolution? There used to be a forum on the official WRC site, but its gone now.. |

Yes, I miss the forum at the official WRC site.
There hasn't been much info on WRC5 lately, but you could try the Motorsport Forums site, and this thread in particular:
https://www.motorsportforums.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=108945
In post #2 there are two links to a couple of other threads on that very same forum which could be interesting to read. This forum also has a more mature attitude to the PS2 than here at BHMS.
Also ToTheGame has a feature list for the game seen here: https://www.tothegame.com/game.asp?id=4097
It would be nice to see some more discussions concerning the game, but I guess we have to wait for some "leakages" from Evos before the discussions starts rolling. I, for one, are still waiting for their homepages (www.evos.net) to be updated with new information on WRC5 since february.
Have you tried WRC4 online by the way? |

Thank you Quad7 for the great info! I will surely check them out
Hmm.. from the sound of things, I wonder will WRC5 feature dynamic weather (to make better use of the new tyre selection feature) ?
No I havn't tried the WRC4 online myself yet. Perhaps I will try that out when I get WRC5!
