Thunder Cars mod for GPL is an open wheeled series with early 70's feel. All cars use a 426cu V8, slick tyres and wings.
This is not a representation of F1, we see the mod as a fictional early "CART" type series as these cars work well at ovals and road tracks alike.
Although never built we have tried to keep the spec of the cars realistic for the period so they could have been built if someone was mad enough.
Compared to gpl67 you have a BIG HEAVY car here so the tracks will suddenly seem alot narrower and shorter, but the superb physics will allow you to combat this...

Here ya go, Challenger
It's on the Race Sim Central Forums.
https://forum.rscnet.org/forumdisplay.php?f=36
I was a little leery about the GEM+ upgrade, since the last updates didn't work for me. I found out from reading some of the FAQs that my issue was with read-only files in my GPL directory, from making and restoring backups from CD-ROM. I found in one of the FAQ's a thread about the little CROA program which removes read-only's from any directory you want, and boy does it work. It found and converted 17,000 (of 32,000) read-only files in my GPL directory, and that was after I converted many of them myself. I'm trying to find the link for it (it was in one the GPL FAQs), but you can of course just do a goodle search for CROA.
It is so worth it. This is IMHO the best mod that's come out for any sim yet! Better than any of the mods for F1 Challenge.
Hope this helps!

Thanks Flight, it is working for me now!
Does this great MOD not offer new in-game menus and car pics?
It all just looks the same (until on the track that is.) |

You're very welcome Challenger.
As for the new in-game menus and car pics, I had the same issue the first time I fired it up. I exited out of GPL, and back into GEM+. On the upper left, I switched the pop-down menu next to "Carsets" to "Thunder Cars (TCMOD)". then the menu and pictures show up. You should see them change in GEM+ as well.
I have a feeling you already switched the pop-down menu below the left picture in GEM+ to "TC-MOD" as well. Since you have the cars switched in the sim already.
Going back to driving these wonderful monsters!

Yes Flight, that was exactly the problem - so I figured, but thanks anyway!
I do not fancy these TC-racers physics very much...
They are all over the place! Unrealistic - way too much power! 5th gear maxed out in 2-3 secs. I don't know if that is caused by the troublesome integration with GPL. hmm maybe a complete reinstall coul fix it - Hope so... |

Challenger,
Did you download the TC Setups and install them? They make a world of difference. And if 5th is maxing out too soon, change the final drive ratio to some taller gearing. That's all it takes.
Don't give up! Give it a chance. Any car is going to feel different when you go from 1.5 litres (1965)/3.0 litres (1967) all the way up to 7.0 litres/426 cubic inches (TC Mod). That's a 4.0 litre increase in displacement! As I mentioned in another post, I took the TC Spa setup to the Bloodbath testing ground and maxed out with that setup's gearing at 242 MPH/387 KPH! That's quite a change from a maximum speed of about 197 mph/315 kph for the '67 cars. So, just give it some time.
You've got to be much easier on the throttle, as I'm sure you've already figured out. As most GPL'ers will probably share with you, learning to drive these cars will make you a better driver in real life, as have the '67 cars for the past six years have done for us already. The TC mod is just the next step up.
If we think of GPL as a driving school, GPL when it first came out could be thought of as GPL 101, and the past six years with mods and upgrades could be GPL 102. The TC Mod could be thought of as GPL 103. And I have a good feeling that things are just starting to get interesting in this set of courses! RBR and Live For Speed I think of as the rest of the major in Driving.

Yes Flight, I will give it another try, ofcourse!
I have played GPL alot and also fancy LFS and RBR and not to mention GTR!
Guess my first impression with TC was not so good
You mention a circuit called Bloodbath Testing Ground, what is that?

Hey challenger,
Glad to see you'll give it some more time.
Here's the link for the Bloodbath track. It's basically a 15mi track with high banked corners. You can maintain about 230mph/368 kph on those corners.
You can also find it on the GPL track database of course.
https://dixierunners.speedgeezers.com/smogbike/?&From=TrackDB
It's toward the bottom of the page.
Have fun!

15 mile/24 km long oval speedway, I meant to say. Just fun for testing top speeds and such.

Hello guys,
Something is missing in the Readme : you must also change, in the beginning of your 67season.ini, numEvents=xx. Otherwise, the new track won't be available.
By the way, great track. Even though the preset record looks quite strange (I made a lap at more than 375 kph (233 mph) and was still far from it ! |
