Bought A new PS2 just to play GT4 with my Driving Force wheel but I am playing WRC4. It is the best Rally game/sim with fantastic car models, gorgeous stages with incredible changes of elevation and draw distance, and brilliant force feedback. Left foot braking will bring the tale round just like in RBR and cars will oversteeer and understeer and the wheel will go light. It makes fantastic use of the official licence - you're actually racing events from just a few months ago.
As for GT4- disappointed - trying everything in setups to get the cars to spin but they seem to have built in understeer. It seems less of a sim then Toca RD2 (on pro sim mode).
Very interested to hear other people's experiences

Hey Weston,

I've actually been curious about GT4, so I'm glad to read about your experience with it.

I run Gran Turismo 1 on my PC using bleem (at 1024x768, it looks and drives great), and when GT3 came out, I decided to rent a ps2 and try it. I was saddened to see that the fun physics model of GT1 was gone, as was the sense of speed. I also noticed as you did, that all the cars wanted to do was understeer. And no matter how much tuning I did, that didn't change.

As with several other racing games/sims, it seems that mainstream companies like sony will dumb down the physics for successive versions when too many people say "it's too hard to play".

I've been told as well by a friend from our Toyota MR2 sports car owner's group that GT2's physics were also dumbed down, compared to GT1. Which was a major disappointment for us, being MR2 owners, since GT2 was the first version to have the first generation MR2, including the Supercharged version (which I drive in real life).

Even though I'm a die-hard PC gamer/simmer (GPL and RBR are my favorites), I would own a ps2 today, if successive versions of Gran Turismo had the physics model and sense of speed that Gran Turismo One had.

That's been my experience Smile

You've got my interest piqued about WRC4...I assume though, that it's not available for the PC, is it? Smile

No it's not which swung my decision to buy the PS2/GT4 pack (having sold my original PS2 2 years ago when I took up PC racing).
When you see what they've done within the restrictions of the PS2 it is such a shame that Evolution (WRC4)can't develop for the PC where the possibilities would be very exciting. Sony have the official WRC licence.

Isn't there a problem trying to play WRC4 on a US model PS2? I thought this was a region thing with DVDs?

Hi guys, funnily enough I could never understand how anybody could call the GT3 physics realistic since in my experience the cars were glued to the road. Anyway, one day a while back, I decided to give it another chance. I went to the test track, went into the garage, put on simulation tyres and deactivated all traction control and ABS. After that the high powered cars would spin out easily but you could still catch them if you were quick with the counter-steering. But the interesting thing is, in the game options I always have TC and ABS off, noticed however that in the races the TC light was still flashing. It would appear as though YOU HAVE TO go into the settings menu (garage) and deactivate TC and ABS manually, otherwise it defaults to on every time you switch cars. Since I discovered that, GT3 is almost as much fun as GPL. I have a nice tuned Corvette with 700 HP or something ridiculous and throwing that around is a real riot. The replays look spectacular too, some major drift angles going on !

Seems crazy to me that you really have to deactivate these aids in the garage every time ( maybe catering for the dumb users ?) but when they are REALLY OFF GT3 is certainly A LOT more realistic !

Just a tip in case you never discovered this bug/feature ! Without TC and ABS GT is a whole new game !
