The vehicles in CMR 2005, of which there are more than 30, have a tangible sense of weight that is especially noticeable when making jumps. There are no floaty physics here, as the cars require a tremendous amount of speed to get airborne before they quite literally slam to the ground when they land. The sense of suspension trauma is noticeable and thrilling, especially when using the game's cockpit view.

BULLSHIT
I like Gamespot but they haven't got a clue about driving games.

Good review. I can vouch for the suspension trama factor in CMR4, and the CMR5 demo. Usually I will slow so as not to get airborn because it creates too much dammage to repair at the end of the stages. Great game! |

I saw CMR5 at my local EB yesterday for only Cdn$25...I almost picked it up, but then thought, no, it's a Crapmaster tiotle not even worth that paltry amount (RD2 was still in my mind...I skipped CMR 3 and 4).
I come home and read this review and think, hell I should have bought it.
Then I read the replies and think, whew, glad I didn't.
I guess I'll try the demo just to be sure since the last time this happened it was with NT2004, which has a vastly better driving model (equal to NR2003) than the the sim crowds gave it (found that out after picking it up months later for Cdn$10). I would love for someone to comment on whether/how much better CMR5 is to RD2, which was pathetic (physics) is my opinion. |

Make sure you get the CMR5 "multiplayer" demo. The first single player demo had terribly gone wrong or wasn't finished physics wise. The second MP demo confirmed the excellent feel that CMR4 had. CMR3 demo's were very bad and it's the only one I don't own other than 5.
If you are talking about a horrible PRD2 "rally racing" comparison then there is no connection. The rally racing part of PRD2 was done by another company and not CM, I was told by a person in the business. CMR4/5 are completely different. Yeah, do the demo, that's what they are for. |

A long time ago on ship far, far away, a little old lady lost her way. One day she found heself a float on a piece of diftwood in rough seas and pondered the question , "How did I get here?". The answer came in a bottle several days later. With the last bit of her energy she reached for the bottle and opened it to find a message inside. it read, "CODEMASTER SUCKS" Suddenly she awoke from this dream to see pigs flying and realized she had just read the Gamespot review..

About the only particularly redeeming statement in this review was,
"Driving a PC racer with keyboard controls is about as effective as typing an e-mail with your car's steering wheel."
Obviously this was written by someone who is a fan of the series.

Yes Codemasters got this really acurate, rally cars really smash there windows, doors fly off and when I was playing CMR3 it would even randomly choose to damage my roof!
Next time WRC is on I recommend you watch how the cars fall to bits over the jumps, maybe some explosion effects needed here?
But of course hats off to Codies for also simulating realistic damage from driving head on into a wall at 100mph, a dent in the bumper and a reset!

No I think this comment was about Micro Machines
Maybe CMR 3005 could meet these realism claims, as there won't be any cars to simulate after we run out of petrol

Ok, let's make it clear. CMR5 is fun (mostly in multi), but please don't call it sim and don't tell me that it was made for driving with analog conroller. And to Codies - please, don't call it brand new driving expierience, for it hasn't changed much since cmr3. |

IMHO, the only thing cmr2005 has going for it is the wide selection of cars.
I think the best car handling was in cmr2. All the titles after that had improved graphics, but took major steps backward in car physics.
After trying RBR, cmr2005 really feels like a rally arcade game. RBR may have its bugs, but at least it feels like a sim. |

They should have the same person review CMR2, 3, 4, 5 - might be a wee bit different of a score...
On the other hand - If it was the same person reviewing - it's a big
But hey, it was easy tor review - good for them.... Seems they still can't find someone to rate RBR... That requires some understanding of rally, of course
I like Gamespot on Strategy game review, but never thought they are conpetent on driving games.

You haven't played CMR 1, the best rally game ever made short of Mobil 1 till early this year when XR and RBR turned up
