Yep, its not fun, EAX is not working and i get a lot of static and popping in my sounds. I have updated my soundblaster live with the drivers released this summer and my pcs specs are high enough to run the game, just that my sounds are just not any good.
Anyone have this problem or have any constructive tips or thoughts on the whole soundmatter? |

Same thing happened to me in the preview version (Beta). I also suffered other nasty sound problems (sounds missing after the first run).
However, upon uninstalling the preview and installing the retail, it seemed to have gone away. Perhaps you should try reinstalling the game.

Yeah, it happens with me as well. You should consider reinstalling the game and then see what happens |

I think I get that too, but I'm not sure, it might have been the gravel sound. I have an Audidgy soundblaster. Hopefully they'll patch it.
The EAX only works on and Audidgy 2 soundcard, so turn it off if you haven't got it. I think that that's a bit bad really, but it's what it says in the manual!

- Actually, I have an old Soundblaster "Live! 5.1 Digital". It came with my computer that is 2 years old, and I swear to my life, I get proper EAX effects with the retail. Sounds extremely nice, I must say.
And yes, I am 100% sure. I have run the preview version with software sound, hardware direct sound (with basic to full acceleration) and in EAX, I hear the difference.

- I tried doing that in the preview but nothing I did had any effect what so ever. My sound card has previously given me a hassle and not working properly in EAX games, but for some curious reason, it works extremely well with RBR retail (but not preview).
I never tried reinstalling the preview when I had it, so I don't know if that is a fix or not. *SNEEZE x 2* oh dear.

Reinstalling will not solve that problem.
I have the same problem, not only with RBR, but have also had it in other games. It seems only Sound Blaster Live and Audigy have this in some games.
This problem can often be solved by turning down your audio hardware acceleration in your directx settings (in windows go to "start" -> "run" and then enter "dxdiag" and press enter. Go to tab "sound", there you will see a hardware acceleration bar, turn it down to basic acceleration for instance and see if that helped).
I have a SB Live card and was running on standard windows drivers, I have always been able to get rid of this problem in other games by turning down audio hardware acceleration, but not in RBR! Now I installed official Sound Blaster drivers and this problem has almost completely gone. Just very occasionally I can here a very mild hiss or pop, but nothing as violent as I heard before. |

when i turn HW acceleration off, the noise is gone, but it sounds worse than before that is not really an option... |

For these who will not understand me I found another guy with same problem as I have.
I'm also using AC97 onboard sound and having small but annoying sound bug. Everything else plays just fine but the codriver sound doesn't work like it should. I can hear most of the notes correctly but sometimes I can only hear part of the note, like "right" when it should be "fast right" etc.
It's not nice when you can know if it's "flat left" or "hairpin left" waiting you at the other side of the crest
So can anyone help us??? |

I'm have the same problem as geofre. The thing is that I'm using an audio production level soundcard! I have a 5.1 Terratec DMX 6FIre soundcard, XP3200 CPU, Rad 9800 and 1GB ram!
The co -driver cuts out all the time and all stages are unplayable without the 3d signs floating in the road.... |

That was me. I turned off the hw acceleration and it worked for me, codriver is now reading to notes like he should.

I had also problems with Hercules Gametheater XP 7.1. Car sounds were really quiet and some sounds were missing (like horns in the replay...).
I got a little tip and now sounds are better:
run -> type "dxdiag"
sound -> change acceleration level to basic
With this change i got louder sounds, but i think that they aren't as good as they should be, but a lot better than i had before.
I tried also with no acceleration at all, but then sounds totally messed up.
I hope this helps. |

I have this problem to, im also using the onboard sound of my Gigabyte mother board & Relteck drivers, its good onboard sound and can cope with Direct X. Ive heard some folks on the forums saying that they are turning down their hardware exelleration to basic and getting better results, so im gunna try this.
EDIT: yay! It works, now i dont have to look at those bloody pictures any more to know where im going, my co-driver is now audiable so he can tell me and i dont have to take my eyes off the road. Thanx to those who posted suggesting turning down the hardware. Yay! I love this game!
