I have the review text now and it is music to your ears:

Quote:
Hard as nails, that's RBR. This is the real deal, the closest you'll ever get to actual rallying without strapping on a helmet and taking out a 5 figure insurance premium. And sweet Lord Satan and his little wizzards, it's tough.

Quote:
Now before we tell you how impressive RBR is, heed this warning : If you're looking for a pick up and play slice of rallying fun then for sanity's sake get CMR4. RBR is only for hardcore automotive massochists who think Gran Tourismo is for girls and you love it when slightly of track you go into a tailspin and end up on the roof. If you're one of those crazy people, you'll think this is the absolute business.

Quote:
We mastered CMR4 and finished the game feeling a bit sweaty but not a nervous wreck. By the time we completed Richards driving tests on the other hand, we had to go and get some fresh air and calm down with a tin of special brew.

Quote:
The game leaks realism out of every busted hydraulic line and that is why it is both so difficult and so compelling. Where CMR lets you floor it and skid thru bends like a drunk in a wheelchair, in RBR you must keep an eye on the speed, brake correctly and stay on course or you'll come a cropper. This game has been designed to Richard Burns specifications and makes absolutely no compromises in delivering an incredibly accurate replication of the rally world.

Quote:
Did we say it was hard? It's so damned hard it will make you want to run down the street waving a rusty spanner at passing cars while softly weeping hot tears of frustration. But it's also eye-bleadingly fast, ultra realistic and totally exhaustive in its dedication to bringing you the true rally experience.

Quote:
RBR is so ludicrously accurate that left foot braking engages a special diferential map meaning power is spread between the wheels in a way to help turn and balance the car and it works!!! as you can feel it. If you really want to master RBR get a wheel, some pedlas, driving gloves and an airbag.

score 8/10

Can Max or anyone give us the reason why they gave it 8/10 and not 9/10 or higher? what is said in the mag? what are the low points?

If this is the case, then it's the same reason why the Swedish review did not score so well. Even so I personally do not care about this reason, I still would consider to make the game more accessible for beginners if there is a demand for it, as the commercial success is important for all of us.

Examples for easy things Warthog/SCi could do:
- RPM limiter for beginner level
- PS limiter for beginner level (air intake/Turbo reduction)

Examples for more difficult things Warthog/SCi could do:
- speed warning indicator for beginner level
- auto braking system on speed warning for beginner level

IMO, the problem won't be solved just with that. I haven't played RBR, but by watching non-simfans friends playing other sims with my st. wheel at home, there's 3 reasons why they find them difficult.
a)Impossibility to recover from a big slide to a side.
They can't feel the weight transfer, so they tend to counter-steer late [and little].
b)Misjudging entry speed. They suppose they can brake in the corner, and that the car will decelerate enough; they always end up with case a) (spinning), or smashing a wall.
c)Misjudging car acceleration on RWD cars. The usual 180º people do with high powered rwd cars, like in GPL.

Ways to make it easier, while still having the same realistic sim:
a)Auto-countersteer; just like the initial keyboard control in LFS, but also for steering wheels. Other than that, i can't think of a better way to avoid oversteering too much.
b)Take into account the car speed in order to tell (visually) the user when to start braking. ABS would help a lot too.
c)Bad traction control. Don't make the car be on the limit of acceleration, but give a wide margin.

DON´T!! DON´T!! Evil or Very Mad don´t turn RBR into a CMR copy! if the handling is great, the physics are great, the weather changes are great, there´s nothing to change on the game - it´s an hardcore rally game - keep that way. We all want simulation, NO ONE EVER SAID THAT RALLYING IS EASY, go kart is a lot easier, F1 is a bit easier, but rallying the top notch motor sport and it should be left that way.
If the review is bad only because the game is difficult then i´m a happy guy that will purchase the best rally title ever Wink

Of course, my suggestions are for an optional 'easy mode', just like we have different damage settings. My suggestions don't suggest to modify the great physics engine at all; those aids would be a layer between the newbie user and the physics engine.

what are you talking?

people are really crazy sometime... they play computer games, like they want, most of my friend when they sit down and drive in any racing game
on my wheel, they don't even use brakes, why? cause "it's a game, it's fun!".

they have to learn.

Sweeeeeeeet! I very much did enjoy that read.
Thanks as always, Max.

So lets gather some scores:
"drunk in a wheelchair" score: 2/10
"accurate Rallye replication" score: 8/10

So I guess 10/10 would mean:
unplayable for all of us normal people without petrol in the blood... Razz

Sounds great, but they have to do everithing is needed for the game to fly and make money. We need to demand simulation as close as possible to the real life. Is compromise possible?

What do we (community) need to do? Add our comments to all the possible reviews and forums about the game when it's launhed?

"Mouth marketing" is powerfull thing!!!
