Still, I was a bit disheartened for having to endure some of the mishaps of the CMR 3 engine code. For example, running into a small shrub on the road causes the car to stop short, despite the insanely high speed. In addition to the pretty poor backdrop textures, Colin McRae Rally 04 is still crammed with outdated 2D sprites in the backdrop - rally fans watching by the road look like paper dolls, and the same effect carries true for the trees.

Why is it that the reviewers always has to talk about "most realistic physics" or "very lifelike handling" and so on, when reviewing games like this??
The Colin series is clearly aimed mostly at the arcade market, even if Codemasters seems to be trying to expand, and attract the simcrowd lately.

Here we have a reviewer that amongst other things says:

"I honestly couldn't imagine a more realistic physics engine or damage model than the one I saw in the previous installment"!

Is he talking about the same game i played? Colin3??

And then...
"The damage model and vehicle physics suffer no rival"
and
"On a general note, it all pretty much feels like the real thing".

Now as a reviewer you can't always keep track on every sim/game out there, but common sense would be to NOT say things like "suffers no rivals" if you haven't tested the opposition!
If this reviewer actually has tested ALL rivals, then he clearly has no idea how a rallycar behaves in reality.
And if has no idea about the reality of rally, then why the comment about "feels like the real thing"?

Colin4 has so much good stuff in other departments that could be brought forward in a review. Writing things like this will just irritate people who might buy the game expecting it to be what it is not.

Sorry about the rant. I just had to get this of my chest! Smile

I totally agree as well Tocca.
But don't worry - Richard Burns Rally is going to show all these 'reviewers' what it's really all about.... and from then on, Mcrae will be known for the retro-junk that it is.
