For the first time, the PC version now has a career mode. Starting with a basic vehicle, you can choose your colour scheme, make and model and work your way up the rankings. Earnings and placings provide access to improved hardware with sponsorship interest also a factor.

[Quote] Ups: Convincing physics; Looks good; New career mode; Spectacular collisions; Good force feedback; Excelllent range of tracks and competitions.
Downs: Drafting seems unrealistic; Lacks fantasy tracks and historic challenges of the console version; Slightly synthesised-sounding sound effects; Yellow flags can kill a race; Only 16 players can race online or in a LAN
Bottom Line: A great all round title, Nascar Thunder 2004 offers an absorbing experience even for non-simmers. [End Quote]
At least this guy has a wheel The more i play this game, the more i find the drafting model 'realistic'. I can close up behind a car and if i try to overtake, the law of drag plays an important role that stops me from maintaining the drafting speed when there is no-one in front of me, so i cannot continue to overtake 4 or 5 cars on my own.
A good review, but still being compared to others, and not on it's own merit.
