From Codemasters' spokesman: "A lot of people have been mailing in asking me about news on a PC version of Colin McRae Rally 04. I haven't been ignoring you; I just thought I would tell everyone at the same time. At present we haven't announced officially whether there will be a PC version of the game. As soon as I do get news though regarding any of our games, then I will announce it here, on the forums and anywhere else I can think of."

Let me answer some of these questions. The game will not be made by Codemaster but will ported from either XBOX or from the Sony Playstation buy a thrid party. The will say it supports multiplayer but in the end it won't. It will be full of bugs and have poor handling as if your driving the car from the rear and will be a complete waste of your money. The tracks will be short and endurance will not be a factor yet Rally driving demands this. The bottom line is, there in it for the money and they couldn't care less what you think. I've been lead down the road by these people with false statements and have been burned more than once. I will never waste my money on a company, that has a "who cares attitude." Fold your company CODEMASTERS!! YOU SUCK!

Hi Michael,
I think Paco has expressed what most Sim-Racing fans nowadays think of CodeMasters. I personally find it quite sad that your company has slided off from making very promising titles like Toca-Touringcar Championship games, which were rather ok for physics at the time, to fictional hoovercraft-physics games. If CodeMasters would be serious about caring about the Sim-Racers out there, then please contact me and maybe I could be of help.
Greets,
Tony

Codemasters has taken this customer feedback very seriously and the ripples caused from the Race Driver PC version have been felt here.
This is the reason why we are putting every effort into the new Race Driver 2 game. It's sub titled The Ultimate Racing Simulator which is a naem we will have to live up to for it to be a success. Alot of work has gone into the handling system, which I myself tried out a month or so back. I have to say it is vastly improved and the feel through the FF wheel is very realistic. Alot of work is going into the PC game to recapture the hearts of the true Sim racers out there.
It's not unfair to say that Codies had a bad year where you guys are concerned, and I have expressed this to the big bosses on a weekly basis, and I think we may have been heard.
I just hope some of you will give us a second chance (And I will be getting decent demos out first so you can see for yourself).

I do hope that's true cause I have been so bitterly disapointed with Codemasters racing games since Colin McRae 2.
Colin McRae 3 was truely awful and TOCA Race Driver was no better. They felt more like driving a boat than a car.
I have played the demo of Colin McRae 4 on the PS2 and this was much improved over Colin McRae 3, so my hope is rising.
I will only buy codemasters racing games in future if they have good handling and it actually feels like your driving a car. Just take a leaf out of Grand Prix Legends book. I still play that more than any other racing game despite the fact that it's now 5 years old. The physics (and feel more importantly) are second to none still. |

You wanna have a good demo before release or I won;t even blink at codies stuff.
And I hope it supports the actlabs shifter and performance pedals.
If what you say is true then good luck and Hopefully I look frwd to a great "SIMULATOR"

I too was dissapointed with Pro Race Driver for the XBOX as it was a port of their PS2 game which looked slightly better but did not take advantage of the XBOX.
Note to Codies do not expect me to buy "PRD2 URS" if it's Pro Race Driver with a new paint job and Xbox Live. I already have PRD and it's ok at best and I stayed away from Colin McRae 3. It's sad that both McRae's Career and his game have gone in the same direction, their both looking for a ride.
Come on Codies bring back TOCA and put this CARPG genre to sleep. |

URS will be completely different game. Here's a quote from a press release:
Race Driver 2 will provide petrol head gamers with the most diverse range of challenging motorsports ever seen in one game. Over 30 global championships will be featured, with players competing in events including GT Sports Car Racing, Street Racing, Rally, DTM, V8 Supercars, Global GT Lights, Rally Cross, Formula Ford, Open Wheel Grand Prix and Classic Car Racing.

Be nice if they got rid of this stupied codes for different levels as well, waste of time, people crack it on the release day anyway, codies will have to come out with something good to get me to bother buying again..

TOCA 2 was great although it could have been more of a simulation. I have hated the Colin McRae series and TOCA Race Driver games as they were utter crap. Poor arcade console ports that had the worse feeling ever. I am pleased I never bought them. Even the Indycar game is crap. Most people hereplay the same games, they are,
GPL
Nascar 2003
Live For Speed
F1C 99-02
What do they all have in common? They are sims. They are editable, and are in no way, arcade or console ports. These features have allowed them to build up a good community and so prolong the life of the game and give faith in the user in buying a new product from the various companys. If any of the above developers said they are making a new sim most would be intererested and not bat an eyelid about buying it. You certainly can't say that about Codemasters. Infact, most would avoid like the plague. I certainly will be avoiding them.
Codies need to get back to writing quality products, not half baked, quick money making crap that nobody buys anyway.

Question: If the next instalment of the game did meet the standards that is required by the sim community and a few dedicate few thought that it was the next big thing in racing games, would you not consider at least trying it? Even if it slowly built up a good reputation and was actually a fun game to play, mod, and compete in competitions with?
It's an interesting situation in which we are in. We are aiming a game that is simulation for the sim community, yet it appears that noone will even bother to try it.....tis very disheartening

Well i have to say i'm a big sim freak, and it takes alot to please people like myself, as said before you will have to supply a really good demo to convince people to by any codies sims, what i will say is this, the most pleasure i have had in the last 2 years is with live for speed, which is not a real sim as its a online game, i still think crammond has come the closest to a real sim, but he let himself down big time in gp4 with the graphics, apart from the wet racing, toca could of been right up there, graphics were nice, but there was far to much arcade game play in it, from handling, bad AI, and no real challenge, having to do 5 laps on maybe 4 or 5 tracks to get a new code is just boring and a real pain in the arse, i think codies need to really listen to the real hardcore sim fans to crack this area, but over the last few years it feels like they don't take a blind bit of notice..

Which is where myself and a future Community guy will come into play. I go out to sites such as this and read the comments made and get some contructive feedback from the gamers be it from plain slagging off of particular features to concise listings of what where and why something is wrong. Alot of the team watch the forums and know whats wrong and aim to resolve the problems as we have done with Colin Mcrae 04.
But we also come to that old conundrum of how to satisfy both the Simmers like yourself and the Average Joe Gamer, that has a wheel but no idea how to plug it in

So miker is PRD2 completely different from Pro Race Driver i.e. different tracks, championships, cars from the first game? I'm only interested in the XBOX version. Will this game be a sim on the XBOX as well? I've read PRD2 is exclusive to the XBOX, which is my primary platform anyway.
Here's an idea and it's been done before. How about having a Sim and Arcade Mode in Pro Race Driver 2. You can have a very sim based model and you can use a very forgiving Arcade model for the casual gamer. Is it too late to implement this?
p.s. miker don't forget supporting force feedback wheels
