I believe I have stumbled upon a steering fix at least for my MFF Wheel,this may help all wheels,also grip is much more realistic IMO,Get Toca3Ripper and look in gamedata/globfil1.big,now look for handling.txt,
example:inside are these settings for each set of cars I Think?
Anyway the settings you are looking at are of the V8 settings
This is what I set mine to, helps out a crap load on steering,and grip,I havn't tried this on any other sets so far.

can someone else try this and let me know what you think,,
Also this is tested with cockpit view at the angel settings from this author? sorry I forgot where or who but this was there post for the view change in cockpit
quote:
I have made a new cockpit-view,with better vision on the track and a greater sence of speed.For this cockpit one has to do a few things
1- download Toca3 ripper from "dtm.daddeltreff.de"
2- a certain file this Toca ripper asks for if you donn't have it- download the file included in Winmip 2 for GPL.
3-a text file with new Camera and Driver angles to be put in the Cars file with help from the Ripper.
You can use the DTM.big 01,or alf.big for example and watch what is happening after you saved this file!!!
[Camera]
Angle=0.200000
Zoom=1.000000
Z=-0.410000
Y=0.340000
X=-0.320000
[Driver]
Z=-0.470000
Y=-1.150000
X=-0.410000

Chomeracer that did the trick. I run with an Act Labs myself but the changes were very appropriate. Let me know how you fair with the other cars. I believe they will all benifit from this style of fix.

I dont know why you guys are even trying to play this game with the wheel. It was made for analog gamepads, clear and simple. I am enjoying this game quite a bit since I got it. Hell's bell's the steering is actually more responsive with my Rumplepad's sticks. And I play from either the hood cam or the 3rd person cam...but I look way too much at the car's lovely ass and crash into something.
I use my wheel only for GPL and the GTR2002 mod. |

Hmmm I suspected as much. However I did not spend almost $400 for a good steering wheel and accessories to play with a toy gamepad. We can make this work right and then others can enjoy it too.

As you wish I was just saying that trying to make this game into a sim is like trying to convert water into petrol...better just enjoy it for what it is...
...and its not a toy gamepad...its got forcefeedback and 9 buttons, a 8 way D-pad, 2 analog sticks and a throttle slider.

Hey Chromeracer
I just gotta say that this points me in the right direction and can fumble with some of the settings myself to get a feel that is to my preference. I myself use a Thrustmaster Ferarri FFB wheel and even though you don't get to much feedback through the wheel even with the patch the steering is definitely better. I have tried it with the simulation button in setup codes and simulation (not sure if there is a difference or not) in the controller setup along with arcade and makes a much more realistic effect in both. I was using the old NorthAmerican muscle cars at Sears Point to test it on and there is a definite a improvement. I will reply to this if I find any better settings. Thxs |

LOL that must be what codemasters used to make the game with.
I too doubt it can ever be made as good physics wise as say F1-2002 or even Nascar Heat but I think it will be a lot more fun to play once the steering and some other issues can be fixed. The way the cars oversteer it is almost unplayable the way it sits. Coddies should well have known better than to release it in this condition. They obviously can do it right with CMR so why not PRD?

Thanks for the replys,I just uploaded a V8Physics Test V0.1 in the forums here,also I believe there is a way to make every vehicle to have its its own
uniqe physics still alot of work.But man this game is beutiful,,I love the way the windows shatter before they bust,,,, Sim or Not This game Rocks and with some tender love and care I think it could damm well be close to becoming my favorite title in a long while,,

Well..Codemasters realed a nice looking game with some poor physics..I wounder if its possible to make a mod like GTR 2002 and get the same physics..You guys involvd in these kind of stuffs maby knows..And a mod with the TOCA grafic and GTR handling, man, im in=))

Well I am still not convinced that the physics themselves are really bad. Until the control issues and positions in the cockpits are sorted out fully it will be really hard to say for sure. I have seen an amazing difference already.

I don't own a copy of this game, but I appreciate the work you're doing. All this talk of improving the physics model has definitely sparked my interest.
I still am trying to figure out if the out-of-the-box physics model really has more widespread appeal. It seems to me that if you wanted to play with a joypad, you would own a console. I'm not trying to flame anyone that uses a joypad on their PC, I'm just saying that when it comes to racing on a PC, I think the majority of people are expecting to be able to use a FF wheel/pedals combo.
Keep up the good work! |

Chromeracer, for those of us who are clutzes at editing files, would you be so kind as to just upload your edited file so we can just download it? I get the sweats when I start to edit game files!
Thanks,

The very first thing I did after installing the game was to actually read the readme file for some reason. I am very glad I did, because it suggested that I enter the cheat code "SIM" on the cheats page for a more realistic physics model. Here is what is says.
Game options
1) Simulation mode controls
Simulation mode provides a more physically accurate mechanics model. This can be enabled by entering the bonus code 'SIM' on the bonus screen. This is not recommended for digital controllers, for example the keyboard, as they do not provide the subtlety required to be able to control the car well.
Now, I don't know if you all have done this, but I think that the physics are simply outstanding after having done this. They are much more realistic for touring cars than the f1 2K2 GT Mod (sorry guys). After all, that game was designed for cars with a F1 type suspension. Now I am playing with a Sidewinder FF wheel, and have no problems what so ever. In fact, the game play is absolutely fantastic and realistic (probably because of the cheat). If you have not enabled it, I would strongly suggest doing so before changing the data files.
After registering the game, I was also given the cheat "DAMAGE" for more realistic damage effects. Another great change to the game.
At any rate, I feel that the game is very accurate in it's physics model given the above changes and was in fact made for an analog device such as a wheel. Let me know if this is a solution to your problems.
Respectfully,
Matthew W. Sanders |
