Thanks, Everybody! I'm an infrequent gamer and 4-time retired motorcycle roadracer (never say never again! Wink ). I've had SBK 2000 since 2000 but I haven't played it in ages. A few weeks ago, I installed it on my computer (now running Win XP Home Edition) and was able to get it running--MAN have I been missing out!

Fast forward a couple weeks: I haven't had time to play but in the meantime, I had installed some more software and upgraded all kinds of stuff.

Result? I couldn't get SBK 2000 to run. No matter what I did! So I found this website, read, uninstalled, reinstalled, tried to run from the PC, tried to run from the CD-ROM, tried every possible Windows Compatibility Mode configuration, un/reinstalled to get rid of 3D sound, tried the "NO CD" patch, AND NOTHING WORKED. DANG!! DOH!

So, I reinstalled the original SBK2000.EXE file (dated 01/27/2000, 5:05 pm, 250 KB), rebooted my computer (again), shut off everything else,

AND IT WORKED! Perfectly!

So, I rebooted, left McAfee VirusScan running, left other apps running, logged onto the internet (DSL), opened up MSIE, opened SBK2000 and IT STILL WORKED!

I basically haven't the slightest idea why it went bad and subsequently came good.

BUT I'M NOT COMPLAINING! Very Happy

(I hope I haven't spoken too soon!)

So, thank you all for your valuable suggestions. I'll be reading them again *when* I run into trouble with my new copy SBK 2001 and MotoGP2.

Team Pro Bono

P.S. Personally, I like the impossibly high difficulty of controlling the bike, even in the easiest, computer-assisted mode. It's really rewarding when you get your lines right, hitting your braking and turn in points, and it all suddenly seems much smoother and more manageable.

1) FWIW: I mentioned that I'm using the exe from the original CD-ROM, not the "no cd" patch file. Note:

The original file is dated 01/27/2000, 5:05 pm, 250 KB.

The "no CD" patch is also dated 01/27/2000 (I think) but has an earlier time stamp is 264 KB in size.

2) I have been able to exit and restart the game twice so far. Whew!

3) N it's time to tackle EA's 1996 game, Road Rash. Any suggestions?

4) Another FWIW: I can still play on XP (!!!) Accolade's 1989 game, The Cycles! Sure, it's got "Super Atari" level color graphics and is only about 20% the sophistication of SBK 2000, but it's still kind of neat--you can race 125, 250 and 500 cc GP bikes doing a single race, practice, or the whole series. Same variability of difficulty as SBK 2000--full auto all the way to shift it yourself, boy is this thing squirrelly! And you think SBK 2000 has limousine-like turning radii for the bikes? Hah! Very Happy

you should get a copy of GP500, there must be about 20 different bikesets out for it from 125 to WSB to MotoGP to boxercup. all with there own physics models.

Actually, I went a little "wild" a couple weeks ago when I was bringing in some $$$$ and bought some "new" games (at least for me--I hadn't bought any for 4 years):

Superbike 2001
MotoGP 2
Grand Theft Auto 2
Colin McRae Rally 2.0

How good is GP500 compared to SBK 2001 and MotoGP2?

Thanks,

Team Pro Bono

K, the graphics aren't as gooda as eiterh SBK or MotoGP. SBK being the best as far as dry and MotoGP as far as wet. The addon bikes for GP500 are as good as the other two easily. The physcis addons and bikeset add ons make GP500 better than MotoGP2 in the fact that you can wash the front end out and get highsided. The low speed grip is also way better than SBK (my biggest grip about sbk) Also the ai in GP500 are far better than MGP2 cause they never spin you around the front of the bike, they can still run into you maybe picking the back tire off the ground but it's not often you go down to you can. I just picked it up off a site a few months back for like $10 us. Heres a link where you can check out most of whats available for GP500.

I second that about what Dave says.
GP500 and SBK2001 are both better than all others if you want realism.
Motogp2 is great fun online though and easy to get connected with others using gamespy.
GP500 is my new favorite though. I've had it for years but got a bit burnt out on SBK2001. (I'll be back Mad )
For SBK2001 hotlaps go to www.hotlaps.de
For GP500 stuff...you got the link from Dave above. There are several other sites but can't remember them at the moment.
GP500 is also quite good online but you have to find players then connect mannualy (No big deal) www.motogp500online.com
