I am now working on an even better, even MORE realistic "Hardcore Physics Patch" for TIR, which will improve the vehicle mass characteristics. With the current "Advanced" physics, career progression is VERY difficult because the AI are much faster than you are -- with the "Hardcore" settings, the gap between you and the AI will be even worse, so I am working on ways to tweak/adjust the AI laptimes.
BUT . . .
Is anybody out there even playing around with TIR (besides me)? And if so, would ANY of you be interested in doing some beta testing as I start to dial-in the AI? It's tough doing these kind of things on your own, so any help I could get would be greatly appreciated.

Greetings:
Finally got it installed and working tonight! Looks great, but man it needs those physics patches! I'll try them out if you'd like. I tried everything in the Empire FAQs and all and it still wouldn't run. Turns out it doesn't like the newer Detonator drivers under DX 9.0a, but the 30.82 drivers work fine (see my very first BH Motorsports TIR Forum post for details on how to roll back your drivers. It's the "Fix" thread from "Raven93".
Cheers!

Rick,
Great! Glad you got things sorted out -- I'm using DX9 and older Detonator drivers (I use OpenGL with GPL, so I have to stick with the older Detonator drivers that work with the OpenGL rasterizer for GPL). Thanks for sharing your fix, though -- hopefully this will help some of the other people who have been having problems.
If you'd like to help test out the physics patches, I think the latest beta "Hardcore" patch (0.25) is VERY close to the final patch. You might want to grab the Advanced patch first, just to see how things have changed from the retail release version, but the "Hardcore" patch takes things to the highest level of realism, plus the AI qualifying times and lap times are corrected to match the new physics, which makes it more worthwhile than the the Advanced patch.
Either way, welcome aboard!

Greetings:
I'll have a look at the hardcore beta. I've been driving this sim quite a bit now, and I think with some tweaking, it has the potential to be a very impressive racing sim. But the tweaks are definitely needed, too arcade-like out of the box. Luckily, for those of us who have discovered the title, tweaks and changes are easy in this one! One question I have is about graphics. It looks great on my machine, except that it's a little bit "sparkly" as if there's no mipmapping going on. Is there any way to set mipmapping? I'm trying to avoid using anisotropic, because of the framerate hit. Thanks!
Cheers!

It's good to see that others are discovering the potential of TIR -- with the proper physics tweaks, the career mode has turned out to be a lot of fun, so even without online capabilities, it's a pretty decent racer and well worth the money.
I have the same problem you do with the "sparklies," and I haven't been able to find a fix. It's better at higher resolutions, so that helps a bit. Otherwise, it's just something we may have to live with.
If you find a work-around for this, let me know!

Greetings:
Yeah, we may have to live with the "sparklies". It doesn't look bad, sort of gives it a TV broadcast look. I'm just used to everything being mipmapped. But overall, I'd rate the graphics as terrific! I may have a look at the executable to see if there's a mipmap setting that could be set in myconfig. This is a very pretty sim to drive and look at! I'm finding it to be lots of fun. If enough people catch on to it, maybe someone can conjure up a multiplayer utility. TIR isn't perfect out of the box, but with some tweaking, it has the potential to be a truly great sports car racing sim!
Cheers!
