On the German Ubisoft site I came across an official statement regarding the F1RC patch. I'll attempt to translate it:

*** START QUOTE ***

F1 RC Patch delayed.

The release date for the F1RC patch was April 16th. It has been delayed because we don't have permission from the FIA to release it.

The patch will resolve different problems with the ultra realistic F1 sim:

Since the first problems with F1RC became clear our programmers have been working franticly on a patch. Because we wanted to use the feedback of users in the development of the patch, it will take a little more time. We ask for your understanding for this.

With the soon available patch, the aggresiveness of the AI drivers will be reduced, without changing the fundaments of the driving style. The 100% realistic character of F1RC should remain.

Also, problems with some graphic boards and steering wheels will be solved.

*** END QUOTE ***

If this is true (and I have to say I'm sceptical), why would ubisoft press on with a patch for F1RC? And would anyone knowing this still go out and buy F1RC? I've sat on the fence personally, waiting to see what the game's like once the patch comes out. From all the reviews it doesn't seem worth buying at present. This is all a bit reminiscent of F1RS & Monaco though, isn't it; the latter came out very soon after F1RS, so maybe this is a deliberate strategy. Seems strange though, because by the time Monaco was released all the competition had had a chance to weigh up it's 'beta' (F1RS) and release games that could seriously challenge it. I suppose the good news is that if F1RC2 is a reality, then F1RC will very soon be selling at half price etc, as an 'old' game.

Welcome to the board, KW!

I think KW has some valid points here.

We will see a patch before the end of this month.

What I don't understand, is UBI is already working on F1RC 2 which is scheduled for Fall 2001... so why bother with F1RC patch?

Thanks JZ good to know.
I guess our F1rc will become obsolete when 2 comes out.
there will be no point releasing it(F1RC) in the U.S. The whole thing sounds a bit odd, is the first one not fixable with a patch alone, that UBI has to make a whole new game.

I just hope this doesn't become a GP2 to GP3 fiasco.

Sometime ago I posted some of the stuff I found in the F1RC executable. It's obvious that most of the scenario/drivingschool stuff is already in there.

Ubi probably had to decide between releasing the game as it was or finishing al of it and delaying the release. To come with a season 1999 sim at the begining of the 2001 season is one thing, but delivering it at the end of the current season is another.

Also, by then there may be others who can produce the same graphics, so I can see why Ubi released the game as it is, without the scenario mode.

It's got to be a 'bitter pill to swallow', for the guys who spent their hard earned "quan", only to have Ubisoft make a completely new game (with new, improved effects) less than three months later, and not fix the issues with the old one.It takes a considerable amount of time to write code...and develop games....which leads me to believe this was in the works for some time.WHY? Any "takers"?
