Look at the video. Can it also be a solution for the bare engine sound; just put it to the background
https://videos.streetfire.net/video/_156235.htm
This onboard video, think it's from subarunorway1, is my dream for onboard sound. So less engine sound but more 'distribution' sound that becomes higher in tone when the car goes faster. Don't know what sort of sound that is actually but I love it and together with the right loud gearchange it's the only thing I want and prefer it for every wrc car.
I know nothing about soundmods but I'm glad that I can hear those 'distribution' sounds in the Subaru Impreza WRC 2005 from Go3 for instance, just slightly in the background (don't know if this is a seperate engine mod btw, it's a long time ago that I installed these mods).
But in the Ford Focus WRC 2006 I can't hear those sound at all.
So is something like this possible? Are there parameters in the ini sound file(s) were you can increase the different sounds and decrease the engine sound, also because I understand that the engine sound itself always will be a problem?
Maybe somebody had this request before, that I missed a discussion about it and their are already people working on it.

Well, changed the onboard sound myself, didn’t go into it before. Maybe it was too simple so nobody replied
But for me at least it’s a big improvement. What I meant with ‘distribution’ is actually the transmissiondiff sound and while driving it’s for me an extra indicator about the real driving speed and imo really helps to be consistent to keep up the speed. And I love the sound
So what I did;
In the audio.ini file from the RBR folder I just put transmissiondiff to the max, decreased engine sound to the back and increased the turbo whistle a bit.
Original:
[AMP::SOUNDS]
Engine=1.0 ; engine
EngineTransmission=0.35 ; engine
TransmissionDiff=0.35 ; engine
Turbo=0.2 ; effects
New sound:
[AMP::SOUNDS]
Engine=0.4 ; engine
EngineTransmission=0.8 ; engine
TransmissionDiff=1.0 ; engine
Turbo=0.4 ; effects
One thing I missed in the ini file though was to increase the gearchange sound.
Tell me if you think it’s an improvement, I’m very curious.

The noice you are talking about is coming from the gearbox, becouse they use straigt cut gears in the gearboxes, and the bang when they change gears if coming from when the dogs "grip" when they change gears.
ive seen a subaru impreza gt turbo in my town with a dogbox, same system as wrc cars but H pattern instead of electro hydralic, and the sound the straight cut gears makes is awesome it sounds more than the enginge when the car drives and is is a load bang when you change gears and the dogs grip.
expensive awesomeness. |

So even outside a car it can make more noise with the gearbox, nice to know. Btw, a C4 WRC makes a lot more engine noise but I prefer something else.

I love it! Nice work. It would be great to get the gear change louder as well but I don't see an option for gearbox or shifting in audio.ini.
oh well.
Very nice upgrade anyway. I much prefer it over the normal internal sounds based on what I've heard from the rally videos. |

Thanx greyerlynx.
The gearbox sound is indeed something what can be improved. I looked a bit in the dat. file but for me it's still complete abracadabra. I have to experiment a bit with it.
What I also like in the onboard from Latvala in the first post is vibration of the transmisiondiff sound at low speed.

Thanks Gallardo, it's a really great improvement! Too bad I didn't see this thread earlier! But thanks for your great finding and that you shared with the community!
