Hi

I have some question on how to change gears manually in the most effective way. I am mainly driving Ford Focus which has 5 gears and would like to know what are some tips on changing gears and what are the recommended gears for the various types of turns (fast, easy, 90, flat etc). Recommendation for 6 gear cars are also welcome.

Thanks a lot.

When I drove the focus, I'd use these:
flat - 5
easy - 5
fast -4
medium - 3
K and hairpin - 2
I tend to use more higher gears than some other drivers and use more torque of the engine. Gears also depend on which surface your driving on and in which raly participate in. For example on snow I tend to use higher gears or in Japan I use lower gears than average. Also you must be comfortable with the car and change gears to match your driving style. Higher revs for sideways action or using torque to drive smouthly.
For 6 speed:
flat - 6
easy - 6
fast - 5
medium - 4 or 3
k - 3 or 2
hairpin - 2
You need to find which gear on which corner works for you and your driving style.
