Does anyone know if it's possible to run GPL in widescreen resoluitons?

I've downloaded the 1.2, CPU Fix and D3D Render patches and I can now get GPL to run in a 800x600 window, but I'd like to run it on my widescreen TV in full screen mode. To do this I need to be able to run GPL at a 1776 x 664 x 32 resolution. I'd also be interested in knowing if it's possible to run at such a resolution in windowed mode.

Does anyone know if it's possible to run GPL in such resultions and if so, how does one go about doing it; i.e what INI file setting must be edited.

I've never used it, but what you need is the GPL resolution hacker. Find a link at https://forum.rscnet.org/showthread.php?t=185077 or find it directly at https://forum.rscnet.org/showthread.php?t=172120

BTW there are lots of links at https://www.gpllinks.org/

To run GPL in a window, you need to go into the core.ini file and set

[ Rasterizer ]
fullScreen = 0

I find that the sound disappears in windowed mode, but you might be able to get sound. You also have to use a desktop setting of 16 bit colours or the menus will be psychedelic..

Bob
Many thanks for responding to my post. I can't wait to download and try the resolution hacker.

LOL... I forgot about the GPL menu only being 16 bit; quite the colorful experience. This brings up another question; does the actual game support 32 bit color or just 16 bit. It would appear that it does support 32 as my desktop is set to 32 bit and the colors do appear to be correct in my 800x600 window. Just wanted some confirmation here.

Much to my surprise I've had good success at getting some older games to run in widescreen modes on my Sony HDTV. Here's the list of some of the oldies I have working so far:

F1 2002
NFS: PU
Rally Trophy
Dirt Track Racing series

I'm not an expert on this, but I think that in full screen mode, GPL runs under 16 bit colours, even though the desktop is at 32. When you're in a window, it's somehow different and the menus suffer. I don't remember if the in-car graphics are OK in a window with the desktop set at 32 bit colours. You can try it out.

GPL are dying. A year from now hardly any one will be playing it any longer because of lack of widescreen support. The standard PC-monitor of today is in 16:10 format, which really should be perfect for GPL sins the game by default plays in a 16:10 box on a 4:3 screen.

Alas, when Phil Flack wrote GPLRasHack in 2003-2004 the only widescreens available then where 16:9 TV-screens. The original drivers used a Ratio value of 100 exept for the 1280x1024 resolution, which used a ratio value of 94. The reason for the latter is that the 1280x1024 resolution would otherwise distort the picture, round dials becoming stretched (because 1280x1024 are a little bit more then 4:3).

The ratio value should obviously be left at 100 for 16:10 resolutions on 16:10-screens. But Phil Flack sets them to 119. This is all right for 16:9 screens but screws up the graphics on 16:10 monitors. I tried a lap on Isle of Man on my 1680x1050 monitor but got mighty seasick even before Id finished a single lap due to the distorted graphics.javascript:emoticon('Crying or Very sad')

I'll see you at the funeral, but I suspect that you might have died before GPL does. Smile

No wide screen support? The utility, GPL Resolutions Hacker (mk 2) at https://forum.rscnet.org/showthread.php?t=172120 is not limited to any ratio. Phil has pre-settings for the set ratios, but, instead, you can enter whatever numbers you want for vertical and horizontal resolutions.

For the now common resolution of 1680x1050, I posted my rasterizer at https://forum.rscnet.org/showpost.php?p=3377892&postcount=73 Just back up your old rastd3d7.dll and put this one into the gpl folder instead.

If you have a problem getting the right resolution, ask for help and we'll try to help you, rather than predicting the demise of GPL.
