Just to save others from wondering when it happens to them...

I have spent a little while with LFS over the years. And, I still have hopes for it. But, I also took a break from it. When I tried it again recently, the frame rate was very very bad (8-12 fps) on my ATI x800xl. I, along with several other ATI owners, was shocked... It turns out that although the Cat5.12 and Cat5.13 (ATI drivers) result in a nice improvement in frame rates in rfactor, GTR and GTL, they turned LFS into a virtual slideshow (8-12fps). The temporary solution for LFS fans is to revert back to Catalyst 5.11 drivers (instant 90 fps). But for those of us who continue to enjoy rfactor, GTL, etc, it means our LFS hiatus will be extended till the problem is corrected by either ATI, or the three amazing LFS programmers.

Note: This was after using driver cleaner too Smile. I even reverted to 5.11 to check. Worked splendidly on 5.11.

I just downloaded and installed the Cat 5.13 drivers for my Radeon 9600 Pro and saw a significant increase in framerates in LFS as well as rFactor. I'm very pleased with them! Must be something with your card??? Did you uninstall your old drivers before installing the 5.13s??? they say that can cause problems if you don't.....

The problem only seems to manifest itself with the newer generation cards (9800+, x800) and manifests whether you have a 256 mb card or 128 mb card. See technical forum on main site (lfsforum) for details.
