What first step are you talking about ? Did you use the DOS window program or did you just doubleclick the bfsunpack program ? Did you try to use the Start->Search option in Windows to look for the files (search for *.bgm )?

Do you now have a \Flatout\data\cars folder ? If you have one, did you remember to remove the .ini files from the \Flatout directory after everything extracted ?

Unpacking doesn't work with the demo if that's what you're trying.

This is the bfs unpack i'm trying:

Used for extracting the BFS files, so that all .ini files and .dds texture files can be edited.

Usage:

1) place the contents of the zip file into your 'Flatout' directory
2) open the command prompt (the little dos tool thingy)
3) go to the tool move to the flatout directory (in my case it was D:flatout )
4) if you type dir you should get the contents of the flatout directory
5) now type: bfsunpack.exe common1.bfs
6) the program shoudl unpack the file
7) now type: bfsunpack.exe common2.bfs
8 it should unpack this one too now
9) now type: bfsunpack.exe europe.bfs
10) close the DOS prompt
11) now move your filesystem.ini file to a diff folder
12) Now the game will use the extracted files and not the original archives.

I don't have anything in files yet(unzipped)...i tried another way to:

1) place the contents of the zip file into your 'Flatout' directory
2) open the command prompt (the little dos tool thingy)
3) go to the tool move to the flatout directory (in my case it was D:\flatout )
4) if you type dir you should get the contents of the flatout directory
5) now type: bfsunpack.exe common1.bfs
6) the program shoudl unpack the file
7) now type: bfsunpack.exe common2.bfs
8 it should unpack this one too now
9) now type: bfsunpack.exe europe.bfs
10) close the DOS prompt
11) now move your filesystem.ini file to a diff folder
i 'm using game, not demo....the directions above,i do not see (step 11)unless that show up later ...i had a buddy work on it for an hour,he couldn't get it either.i useed to run DTR racing,i never had these kind of problems.i dont see an ini file either or is that after everything else? Confused Confused Confused

That doesn't make much sense.

If you start the game, will the game work ?

If you don't have any .ini files in your Flatout directory and you haven't extracted any files, your game won't even work.

Have you unzipped the zip file with bfsunpack to your \FLatout directory yet ?

Did you get the U.S. version or did you get it from Europe or some other place ?

If you have the Europe version, did you also get the patch ?

Either way, there should be a filesystem.ini and maybe a patch.ini in your \FLatout directory with your common1.bfs, common2.bfs and maybe patch.bfs.. Remove the .ini and put them somewhere else where the game won't read them. I put mine in the \Empire Interative directory.
