This game is ruined by the difficulty level. It's not adjustable and is just insanely hard. I am just about finished- not because I have almost beaten it, but because I am sick of beating my head against a wall in frustration. Am I missing something with this fucking game?
For example: I am on a mogul section (the short spaced, small bumpy sections are moguls, right?) and 2 CPU players crash into me (there is always at least one CPU player with magical acceleration which can magically catch up to you and crash into right before a rhythm section or mogul section) and we all crash. The 2 CPu opponents do not lose any time and are back on their bikes without losing any time at all- I am forced back 3 places as the rest of the racers o past me!
This type of shit in racing games drives me wild. It's a blatant cheat and only serves to ruin otherwise good games.
WTF is wrong with MTX? Is it just me? I am playing the PC version, why are there no difficulty levels? |

Actually, far from being "pure crap", MTX Mototrx is the best motocross title ever released, and I did race MX when I was young and have spent a lot of time in the dirt. It flat out BURIES MCM2, the previous reigning king of MX games (though I still keep a heavily modded version of that installed as well).
From the sounds of things, you're not taking every advantage while riding. It is ESSENTIAL that you learn to compress. I assigned an easy-to-reach joystick button to the compress function, as well as it bring set in the Y axis. As you approach a jump, compress and let your joystick center to neutral. At the top of the jump, release the compress button and push slightly forward on the stick, and you'll fly! I use a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro stick, about $30 at Walmart.
As for the whoops, when you head into the whoops, pull all the way back on the joystick and hold it until you clear the whoops. Another important matter is RPMs. You want it revved. You don't really want an axis assigned to accelerate, too slow and awkward. I use the joystick trigger as my throttle.
Lastly, if you're ever going to get the holeshot, you need a clutch button assigned, one that you can use at the same time as the throttle. On starts, pull in the clutch and rev. When the gate drops, be at full throttle and dump the clutch as quickly as possible.
The demo is very much more difficult than the full title. It's worth every cent of $19.95, and with a little practice, you'll be spanking the AI consistently.
Just because you don't get instant gratification and might have to practice a bit doesn't make the game "pure crap". It is, in fact, the best MX game ever, and tons of great fun!
Cheers!

Actually the game is pretty cool. Good graphics and the handling of the bikes are cool, its just the A.I. is totally unrealistic. The only time you win on the top level is when they don't cheat you out of it. I have finally won it. It just takes many many tries to do it. When you finally win the game, I don't feel I have accomplished anything, I Just feel like the A.I didn't cheat as bad that time is all. |
