Redline Developments would like to formally apologize for our lack of response following the original release and subsequent removal of Redline GTP. Shortly after release, we became aware of installation bugs. We brought this to the attention of the community. We also became aware that Redline GTP was infringing upon the rights of a number of companies. We have been working closely with FIRST-Racing.net - the company who owns the rights to the simulation we modified - on a restructured version of Redline GTP and are happy to say that we will have this out in the near future. The solution to this situation is designed to allow us to deliver our mod to the sim-racing community.
The restructured version of Redline GTP involves the removal of all infringed upon unlicensed properties including those of car manufacturers, track-owners and various other properties. Even with these changes, the core of Redline GTP remains completely intact. Redline Developments will fully support the restructured version of Redline GTP; however, we will be unable to offer support for the original release and ask you to delete such version from your computer.
The history of sim-racing includes a tradition of post-publisher mods and development. This will continue and is something both Redline Developments and FIRST-Racing.net support , however modding should not cross the line into intellectual property infringement. Modders and companies must work cooperatively in frameworks which protect the rights of all involved.
We at Redline Developments are amazed at the amount of excitement Redline GTP has created. The level of support we received from the sim-racing community has exceeded our expectations in every regard, and for that we are grateful.
We hope that you continue to enjoy Redline GTP and, again, thank you for your continued support!

This sounds like really bad news for the modding community.

And these folks/companies who were "infringed" upon, couldn't have said something before the mod was released?
Sounds like a bunch of crap to me.
I mean,hell...the mod was freely shown around here at BHMS and was being talked about for almost a year, and at other popular places besides BHMS (RaceSimCentral,ThePits..etc)...and now it comes to this?
What a crock.
The whole racing sim community in general is going straight down the tubes.

The involvement of FIRST-Racing.net is puzzling. Was this mod officially supported by them? This may alter the situation. Most mod teams have no connection with the original game creator.

PWF were connected to Papyrus they just didn't admit it until all the mods were released and mirrored, I think it might be a wise move to backup all the mods now as if this is a major car company it could destroy the entire mod comunity.
From what I've heard at other places it sounds like it will just be rereleased with names blanked out that could be easily replaced...

It looks like it might not have been an installation problem after all. Or perhaps it was, it just installed copyrighted material.
They probably shoud have waited until the copyrights ran out.

ps: I'm glad I have the original burned to disk, it's a collectors item now.

This makes me wonder if the F1rst beta testing that is going on now is a sportscar mod.

This reminds me of the deal a few years back where several private non-commercial track developers (i.e., simracers like us) got burned over releasing Daytona for the current Papy Nascar series (I think it was N4 at the time). For a while the only way you could get a representation of Daytona was via illegal means or by just building it yourself and not telling anyone.
If this is what happens to modders who in good faith try to produce a first-class homebrew mod for the community, we'll see a big slowdown in new development - who want's to be sued by some greedbag corporation for putting their name on a car without paying them a fortune up front?
This is simply a damned shame!

I doubt it is actually a major car company/ track owner it is probably as has been suggested before someone complaining that they weren't given credit for something they made rather sad if you ask me
I think most greedy corporations have the sense not to piss 58,688 sim racers off. |

Not a sound business move by First-Racing pissing off people you're hoping to sell your product to imho.

FirstRacing didn't screw up anyone. They own the code!
I just wrote how I see the statement that redline released. I have no idea what is going on so my guess is as good as yours.
