I got hold on the old PC version of IHRA Drag Racing just recently. I had to get it because no other drag racing title after it regardless of developer succeeds this version in being a true drag racing simulation.

The problem is. I got damage set to FULL but when I race the gauges for water temp, oil temp and pressure etc. wont work! It’s impossible to blow an engine no matter what you try Shocked

Anyone here played IHRA for the PC? Is it a bug or did I miss something?

Happy holidays everybody // Bratking

Well, it’s old but it’s good.

I quote Bethesda themselves.

Quote:

IHRA Drag Racing is the most realistic and exciting drag racing game ever developed for the PC.

So far this statement seems to be true.

Quote:

IHRA is an extremely accurate Drag Racing Sim. It is possible to set up an invalid engine
combination that will prevent your engine from working when you get to the
Race-track. If this happens you will see the "invalid engine combination"
warning in the engine graph window. In the Shop, you should change the Valves to match your block in this case and the best way to do that is to set your valves to Auto Calculate.

IHRA Drag Racing is probably the closest thing you can get to a full blown engine simulation on the PC. You can even change the engines geometry.

The physics is pretty solid for a game released in 2000. You can feel and see the results from your tuning and you can tune anything worth tuning regarding engines, chassis, transmissions, suspensions, tires and electronics.

In short, if you are interested in a good dragsim I recommend you take a good look at this one. You can get a slight improvement in graphics and if you own a PS2 with IHRA Drag Racing 2 or for the Xbox IHRA Drag Racing 2004 but It’s more or less the same sim as the original PC version.

Unfortunately Bethesda gave in to arcade for IHRA Professional Drag Racing 2005 to sell more copies. It uses a new game engine to sport better graphics but simplifies tuning and restricting it to stupid sliders. Who would want to play a dragracing game where everything boils down to reaction time? Honestly? Just look at Valuesofts NHRA Top Fuel Thunder that was released just recently. It’s a sad excuse for a dragsim with horrible physics and simple arcadish gameplay. I doubt anyone would play it for long.

If you find a fully working PC version of IHRA let me know Wink

Cheers!

Last year I struck gold when I found a copy of "NHRA's Main Event" at EB in Daytona FL. for $4.99

Like everyone has said it's awesome and the best drag racing sim ever.

It worked! Thanks Very Happy

IHRA for the PC is the only real drag racing sim with decent physics, damage and complex engine simulation IMO. It’s old but years ahead of any other title released after it. Using real values for engine inertia and geometry and not simple sliders or upgrades in stages that don’t make any sense. IHRA could even be used to make ruff estimations by engine builders. Now better tools are available for such simulations but they are all about diagrams and lacks the virtual playground of IHRA where you get to drive and compete with custom built engines and vehicles.

If you ever hear about a better dragsim, make sure you post about it here,

Cheers!
